10b Questions

OK guy's, I just finnished running 10b and I'm confused. I sank two ships and downed two planes. All that was left was me and Mr. Kaiser. I kept my distance and shot torpedoes until they were all gone. I did this for over 3 hours with no mission victory. There's no way I'm gettin close to that thing without becoming ocean scrap. Where do I go from here? Image

Is there a limit to how far the torpedoes will reach?

Why do my guns seem to hit so many friendlies in the mission?

Thanks Jesper. Do you know what is needed to succeed in this mission? I thought you wouldn't have to sink the Kaiser to beat it. Is there a number of ships you have to sink? I take it that it's normal for your guns to hit your own ships during play. I'm assuming they are trying to fire over ours when they get hit. Or, do you have to cease fire when ever your own guys are inbetween you and the enemy.

Do you know the furthest the fish will go if set at the slowest setting? I'm thinking I want to stay as far away from the big guy as possible and sending the fish seems like the safest way to maybe get lucky and nail her. Do you know the distance the 15 inch guns will attempt to hit you?

Thanks again for your help.

Mitch

Now I dont really know any of the tips for surface combat. last time I played surface was waay back in time in the limited edition, and lots have changed since them.

However I do know that you should not open fire on your allies, if they sail inbetween you and the enemy youre firing at, you should cease fire and/or find another target, here you can make good use of the mike as you can look in your binocs while steering your ship and yelling out orders; The "Engage Target" Voice Command is very usefull for that. :)

Without being absolutly sure, I think that at the slowest torpedo speed they have a range of 6600meters (Its a wild guess cause I really dont remember, I dont have ERT installed at, and wont install it, cause I should recieve my Gold Ed, in a few days).

There might even be different ranges for each faction, its unlikely, but yet still possible :)

If you look at the screen when selecting torp speed it tells you the distance they will travel (in meters) The fasters setting (44kts I think) gets you about 6k if I remember correctly and the slowest gets you a heck of a lot more.

I do however what to point out that you are not going to sink the battleship with torps, takes tons of hits, im talking 20+. As for hitting the friendlys, well that falls right in the same catagory of the fact that the enemy AI is better than our AI 10 fold. Our gunners can hit friends 90% of times but only hit enemy 10% of time where the enemy AI can hit friends about 10% of time and hit us 90% of time.

Actually that would be an Enigma myth.

The Player AI Crew and the AI Commander Crew use the same systems, parameters and decision processes. Generally an AI commander will hold course more often than a player giving their gunners a superior platform for targeting. They also will try to optimize their orientation to you to enable the best possible firing solution for the largest number of guns.

Yes, but the AI gunners on other ships dont send every other round into a wave 3 yards out ;)

Also, possible bug... On nearly calm seas with the battlecruisers, >50% of the rounds end up about 30-40m out from where the guys on my ship were aiming, and it's clear it's the big guns due to the size of the splash (maybe a bug with player-controlled ships and AI gunners with non-perfect sea conditions?)
