Heres A Fast Boat

Sorry to have to correct you, but....

Mine was built in Bath, Maine. Some were built there, and some were built in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

I am a plankowner, and I was there when they were building my ship.

It's hard to believe they are decommissioning her so soon, seems like it was just yesterday when she was built. She will be decommissioned Sept 30th, 2004.

The Arleigh Burke was in the berth right next to us, being built at the same time as the Monterey. The Monterey was commisioned on the 16th of June, 1990.

I remember when the Arleigh Burke pulled into Yorktown behind us to take on weapons, they had an engine room fire, and had to do an emergency breakaway from the pier. They then had to go back to Bath.

I still can hardly believe they are decomming the Ticonderoga. :(

I have been aboard her, as well as the Yorktown, Leyte Gulf, Phillipine Sea, and the Cowpens. Arleigh Burke is the only Aegis Destroyer I have ever set foot on.

I hope they don't decomm the Monterey after 21 years, but if they do, I get a piece of her. :D
