Why Enigma

That's one I can answer :)

When a few of us old Iron Wolves salts first came up with the concept of an Iron Wolves replacement, I partially disseminated the client-server protocol it used to gain a better understanding of how it worked. Cracking the code - hence Enigma.

The project became known as the Enigma Project, and since I rather liked the name, when East came around to picking a title for the game I lobbied hard for it to include Enigma.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I have a little story about ENIGMA. in 1923 a Polish firm started to produce cypher machines for businesses who did not want their communiques intercepted by rivals. They were reasonably successful, and, I think, an order was placed by the German Weimar Government for government work.

I would have to agree that Rising Tides would have been a more concise and punchy title. If you only saw the box cover and the title, without reading the info. on the back of the box, you would get the impression this was a game about the hunt for the Enigma machine and chasing down a sub to capture the code books.
