depends on how fast you hit, and how damaged you are. I've had a damaged sub I forced to the surface start to spin to shoot a fish at me (no way to get far enough away to evade his shot), and I ran my corvette at flank speed at him, then hit full reverse before hitting him so that I was only going a couple of knots as I ran my bow over him and sunk him.

When I played mission 10b of the German surface campaign I rammed the yellow submarine...
There's a yellow submarine in the game?! How could I have missed that? :D
Well :D It's shown as a yellow dot on the radar (all other dots are red or green), so that's why it's called yellow submarine. It's not painted yellow (too bad)

LFN Surface campaign, sink 4 milchows in quick smart time.

I hit this sub at 30 knots plus and sunk it, stayed afloat myself.

The Naval Board of Inquiry afterwards dimissed the allegation of "reckless endangerment of crew" against me. The photographic evidence (below) taken by a war correspondent clearly shows I was airborne and had right of way. ;)

lol. Good work there.

After one of my many unsuccessful sub-hunting forays, I ended up badly damaged and out of waterbombs, waiting around over a sub's last known position waiting for the fragger to surface so I could let him have my 4" Can openers close range.

Seeing the periscope appear, I limped for his position. Grinding metal filled my speakers, and I stopped him surfacing, but neither of us took damage.

Is it actually possible to force a sub to suffocate by doing this?

Yes That yellow submarine ....

On the GMX version I already noticed a message ,' Richthofen will be pleased with the destruction of the spies " , which puzzled me . Likewise trhat one sub appeared on the map in yellow , instead of green or red .

Only on the Dreamcatcher version , I saw that there was a reference in the mission about the marked sub.
