Installation Crashes

Hi guys, had a bit of a problem and ended up buying a new CPU, mobo, RAM *and* hard drive!

I'm trying to reinstall ERT, and I'm having the same problems I had before. Installshield crashes with this error:

AppName: _ins5576._mp AppVer: 5.53.168.0 ModName: zdatai51.dll

ModVer: 5.50.131.0 Offset: 00004827

Now, I thought on my old computer something was messed up when I had this same problem, but this is an almost totally new rig with a fresh XP Pro install. I've tried installing ERT 5 times and it crashes at random times. When I try to install again, it tells me "Installshield could not properly initialize. You may not be able to uninstall this program" or words to that effect.

Like I said, I didn't get *too* angry the previous time, because I thought I had a wonky system. But this is new CPU, RAM, motherboard (ASUS instead of MSI this time) new vid card, new hard drive. This shouldn't be doing this >;(

Norton AV is disabled during install.

(EDIT) Tried again, and got the same error, with a different offset. I notice a tiny hourglass on my mouse pointer for a second right before the crash. This time is crashed at 75%. It has crashed in several different places.

corrupt CD?

Sounds like a CD or CD drive fault. Clean your CD first. Try deleting the files in C:\Windows\Temp then restart in safe mode and try to install again. If you are installing from the DVD ROM try installing from the CD RW instead

I had this problem once. the fix is very simple (atleast it was for me)

Make sure ERT files are gone from ..\..\..\Enigma\

Reinstall your videodrivers and reboot.

Weird problem indeed. A quick search on the Internet indicates the bonus points would seem to go to starshell's idea of trying the other drive... it looks like it has something to do with the CD/DVD player...

Used Drivespeed to slow it to 8x - no love. 4x did the trick though! Sally bought me a new CDRW/DVD drive for my birthday, so I should be ok from here on out!
