3 layer mining for the POS!

We have had 2 abandoned POS's cluttering our WH since we moved in. Recently we were told that more POS's might affect the spawn rate of exploration sites in our hole, so they have to go. I was able to make contact with the past owner of The Big Top, and bought the POS from him. He shared that they abandoned it because his partner got cold feet. Today, Zec, Ave, LG and Flame repped the 4 guns, unanchored the POS, and brought it home. What a chore! Thanks to all for spending the time to remove this eyesore from our beautiful hole.

This has got to be one of the funniest things I have seen on EVE. 4 guys gate camping in our hole at a WH to Hi Sec. Zechk tipped me off so I check it out. I am driving around their camp and warp bubble cloaked in my Nem. After 5 minutes somehow my cloak drops. WTF??? I am not near anything but must admit I wasn't really paying attention. Well I get whacked but the pod is OK. Back to the POS. I cloak in the helios and get some BMs a couple hundred out. Then I show up in the sniping vessel and start taking shots at their T2 ships. One has a shield tank, the other armor but I have some fun taking pot shots then leave. I go AFK and come back in 1/2 hour and there is a wreck at the POS! The POS has killed one of there covert ops ships. So now being the curious guy that I am I go back to the hole cloaked and sure enough 2 of them are still there tending their bubble. So I take a few minutes to drive around to the side of said bubble so I have a clear line to the POS and the hole. Now God help me but I go back and refit the sniping vessel into the WH mass-kill configuration with a bunch of stabs and 1600 MM plates. You see where this is going. I show up 200 KM from the hole in what they think is the sniper. Then I warp to the hole and they start shooting, so I jump through to "get away". God this is where it starts getting funny. They have a guy on the other side and I am sitting there waiting for the WH timer so I can jump through and back if they have a phobos or something ugly to scram me. After a minute he targets me so I warp to the station. I wait for the timer and warp back to the hole. He is still there and I jump through. SURPRISE! The hole collapses behind me. These guys now have a bubble in the middle of the deep dark and no way home. They take a few shots at me but I warp back to my BM out of range and take a snapshot of the poor bastards. AFTER giving them the horse-laugh of course. 10 minutes later they are soliciting me to sell an exit while trying to scan down a hole with combat probes. LAWL.

Well as it turned out these guys really had no sense of humor at all and were incapable of appreciating a good joke. Within 24 hours they had scanned a way out and were back with their own POS which they set up in our hole. In fairness most of us expected our POS to get ganked within days or weeks of setting up, so this was a good opportunity to learn. There are so many aspects of Eve that one only learns through experience. Well, we got the full course here from these bad guys who laid one on our ol' POS.

One thing we learned from the assault was that "failguns" dont work on Minmatar POS. We had started with a Gallante POS originally but didn't change the gun type when we switched. I swear these guns looked quite intelligent when I bought them but it turned out that they weren't too much of a threat to our well equiped attackers. One lesson we learned was that it is a good idea for someone in the corp to actually have the skills needed to target the guns. Whoops. Without an operator these seemingly competent guns tended to be easily distracted, shooting large shells at drones and generally showing more bark then bite. They seemed to be easily distracted by shiny objects (like the sun, pictured).

It is always a good idea to check on what the neighbors are up to. I visited ours and inventoried their defenses for future reference.
