This is a MCVG-2 Group Training Alert message:.

Date: 10 Dec 08

Time: 2200 HRS EST

Locn: Hyperlobby

Comms: TOW

Task: TBM-3 Avenger Flight Operations using a Static Carrier for take off. Okinawa 1945 server

Op: Training Mission 3

Instr: Rino / Whitey

~S~

NOW HEAR THIS.........NOW HEAR THIS........

The next scheduled training sortie "slated" for the Group will FOCUS on the techniques necessary to clear the deck of a STATIC carrier using the TBM-3. We will have a guest instructor (VBF-12_Whitey) provide a period of instruction on how to fully utilize the current TBM-3 Avenger and to master this aircraft in general while flying in a Dog Fight Server (Okinawa 1945). The TBM-1 Avenger Beta will not be the topic of discussion in this training sortie, rather the standard 409b1m Modded version we have used to date.

To just clear any personal thoughts and ill feelings regardless of past frustration and failures up to this point experienced by some of the pilots within the Group in trying to just launch this aircraft from the static carrier deck, it seems to me now after a lengthy discussion over Team Speak that VBF-12_Whitey has a very favorable action plan on how to perform the necessary take off and landing procedures to standard. I think it would be in our best interest as a Group to listen in and do exactly what he intends to pass along to us as sim pilots.

This training session will be focused collective training for our Bomber Flight with our Fighter Flight performing a similar mission.

Server to be used will be the OKINAWA 1945 server. Time will be at 2200 HRS EST (10:00 PM EST) Local time. Standard Voice comms using Team Speak in effect.

That is all........

Last night I installed the Avenger patch and sat on the deck of a stationary carrier in an Avenger for the first time ever. I was hanging out with Ranger and Saipan in the OKINAWA 1945 server. I started the engine, set full flaps and locked the tail wheel. I wasn't sure how to trim the aircraft out so I left it pretty flat, as far as trim goes. My trim is assigned to two wheels on my CH fighter stick and they were in neutral positions.

I have heard from all of you about the difficulty this aircraft presents on take-off, so I was nervous, but I let her rip and I began to move the beast down the deck. After I left the carrier, I felt her pull hard to the left and I used my rudder pedals and ailerons to correct the left wing dip. Surprisingly, I was able to keep her out of the water and level on my first take-off attempt!

I am not telling you this to brag, just to give everyone hope that it can be done and maybe using so much trim is not the answer. Also, get some rudder pedals! Image

That Makes me want to grab some pedals right away. I haven't had the issues launching her, and I am running at about 60% landing. It just takes patience when Landing. Sometimes I go to my suicide landings that I do in the Corsair. Doesn't work as well in the Avenger. But the input from you regarding pedals interests me.

New from CH, they are $150.00, but it looks like you can get them for about $100.00 from Ebay and other sources. Well worth the price for serious flight simmers! They also work as gas and brake pedals for car games. By the way, I have mine setup as toe brakes on the left rudder pedal for this game, but other flight sims allow these pedals to act as left and right toe brakes.

I highly recommend all CH products! I have the Fighter Stick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals. I know they are expensive, but they will make your flight simming experience much more enjoyable!
