Submarine Mission Suggestions

#1
The submarine missions included in  the single player campaign missions do not really re-create what submarine combat is supposed to be about. Far to often in the tips and tactics section of this forum i see that the best way to complete missions is to run on the surface' date=' full pelt towards a convoy and then submerge before you get to smashed to pieces (in some missions you are underfire in seconds). Then you are expected to sink the whole lot! Perhaps this does make it a little more exciting but if that is what i wanted i would be playing as a surface ship.
My suggestion would be to increase the distance that subs start from a convoy to allow them to run on the surface and choose their own attack point (this would also mean removing any time limits). Instead of the sink everything in sight objective perhaps  set a minimum tonnage sunk level for the mission to have been considered effective. As i'm sure you know submarines rarley sank entire convoys and definately not in one go.[/quote']
I of course agree to your assessment.  Think U-571 rather than Das Boot.  We do make some tradeoffs for Enigma because new players tend to like U-Boats.  If U-Boats are handled too realistically' date=' they think the game sucks because it's too hard and you don't get to do anthing or it takes too long.
Multi-player will cater more to a substantially more realistic submarine command.  You will have to be very carefull on the surface and you will have a much more realistic torpedo load.

Single-player needed to have a bit broader appeal and certainly leaves us at risk of alienating more hardcore simmers.  We also know we can't please everyone, but I'm glad you posted it and I think you will be pleased with the changes that take place as we move forward, even in single-player.

Can you say "Damage Model"....[/quote']
