Also... FM, you may not want to do a great deal of work on the "peak view site" as that site is only that .. 'peak view'. It was constructed so the BoD had something to look at to get a good idea of the look and feel. Once you have a new host IP number .. that is when things will be uploaded and transfered, however in the area of the forums .. it will be a new install as I doubt the DB will be moved. Check with the WM on that detail, as its a matter of WM preferences. also the mysql version makes a difference.

Once the BoD has a Host decided upon.. and then you have an IP number .. That is the site you want to do the 'work' on. That site can be accessed and worked with by IP number. Strictly IP number. Once the WM decides its time to go live with proper announcements and so forth .. then the IP can be 'activated' for the domain name and will be "live" to the Internet within about 10 minutes. It won't take days for things to propagate thru the DNS servers... that is if the same domain name is used. Its simply all DNS/Authoritive pointers. In fact, you don't need to make any announcements if that process is used.. it will simply happen and no one will know the site is moved .. just that it looks different.

Hope I explained that right where it is understood.

The work I see you doing however is great experience where you 'learn' that forum now. . so when times comes .. you can maybe just copy some stuff.. but at any rate you will know 'how to ' much faster.

I use SMF a lot for clients and friends. Its a great little tool and forum.. its not as powerful as the ToW forums but it can do that trick for any of the USAAC needs I feel.

Skinning is another trick altogether .. but you can go 'shopping' for some skins that can be 'worked with' so you don't have the task of trying to build a skin from scratch. That ... is a massive task I never want to do again!! :) Colors .. no problem change away :) Sometimes simply changing the colors to blend with a logo is all that is needed.

If I already knew what host and what mysql version etc, then I could comment further.. but I don't so its speculative. WM is best person to comment on all that. regardless of mysql version.. it could be a 'export/inport' might work .. regardless of mysql version, however my experience with 'export/inport' has always been a serious headache.

I would strongly suggest keeping all the old posts. They are part of the USAAC history.
Ditto.........

At least have a link to them if they cannot be "migrated over" easily.

Or maybe a thread entitled " previuos UsAAC forum" and just have it there in its current form for review/research/historical etc etc.

There is a lot of hard work there that should not be lost.

I think maybe all the "non AA related" would be an awful lot to ask of the FM and mods to move, but all other areas seems to be a good idea to keep as history. There are a few forums meant to be temp .. such as the Webmaster area .. those don't really have any posts of any "historical value" that I can see and most likly won't be of any value on the new systems (?).

Might be a good idea to ask the LM and Fun Event Mgr to clean out there area of post that just "don't compute' any more .. thus less to copy?

Links are not really viable ... because once we are done with the current site and the current forums .. they will be shut down. There is no point confusing anyone. We can, by request, include a pass thru link for USAAC just as we do for the Squad sites on this current system in the event someone does come to the current forums by bookmark .. then we can steer them in the correct direction.

Unfortunately IP number isnt going to cut it. I have done many of these installations and even as late as yesterday I did one that was not delegated and the site would not work.

Joomla 1.0 isnt as bad but things like style sheets do not load properly because the path is looking for the domain, not an IP address and the thought of changing every single file to an IP address doesnt exactly thrill me to pieces. An install of Joomla 1.5 just would not load yesterday until the domain was propagated, then all was fine.

My intention was to purchase a cheap domain once the hosting had been organized so I could get the site off the current sub domain and at least get it operational on the new host before swapping to airattack.us. FM could also get his part done as it will be a straight swap to the final resting place (airattack.us)

I needed to make sure that the BoD didnt have an issue with me purchasing an air attack oriented domain name. This was my reason for displaying those names.

Sorry if I caused any issues.

ummm interesting. First time I've run across any site or software that would not work off of IP number. ToW can function 100% from IP including the forum. OK. joomla needs a domain name for what you want to do .. no problem still.

Lets do a switch out ... its ez and will only take a few hours. At most the site would be down or off line for 24 hours max, its just all timing and you will still have the old forums. Place a place holder up "under construction.. will open tomorrow 6PM". Use a temp. Launch button to launch CLP .. and the forum link to visit the USAAC forums. Bingo .. all done :)

I think that process will work just fine :)

What ever ya need Fire .. just let me know.
