You are being contradictory temp.

On one hand you say there will be more people flying if we stop all this writing and reading. On the other hand you imply it would be a terrible thing if tbar were to shut down these forums. For anyone who's interest lies solely in playing Air Attack this site is meaningless anyway. All that's needed is the Central Launch Page.

So what is the purpose of the USAAC site? Perhaps that should have been the topic subject instead of what is wrong with it.

In any event you are in the wrong topic. This one is entitled "Sysops: Where do they come from?" Sorry if I confused you by giving you two things to think of at the same time It may be, of course, that you are cleverly trying to steer us away from the present topic before someone asks "Temper: Where did he come from" I suspect that you are simply whiling away the time waiting for the space ship to arrive and take you home.

You refer to some of these posts as being beyond absurd. GK Chesterton said that "In a world where everything is ridiculous, nothing can be ridiculed. You cannot unmask a mask." It may well be that our entire AA world is absurd so ridiculing any part of it is, in itself, absurd. Think about that.

Anyway on a more serious note, I too am concerned that I have started something that has become very hurtful to tbar and I feel strongly obliged to offer him my apologies. Once started, these topics took on a life of their own and went down a path that might have been better handled in a more private setting. It was never my intention that this would be a vehicle for abuse to be heaped upon anyone's head. I'm sorry tbar. Forgive me.

I don?t know exactly but afaik from Germany, Great Britain, Canada, the U.S. and South Korea.

Ah I bet this isn?t what you wanted to ask anyway, since you know the answer already. You want to know how they got into service, how they got elected and how they will be elected in future ?

If I want to explain that in its full coherences and the entire backround story I had to write a 500 words essay again, so I?ll try to make it short:

The germans and the british were the ones who contacted Mark Vange back in the days and made ?handshake?- contracts with Ketsujin. The Koreans were asked to shut-down the KAA-server in favour of the Ketsujin-server and they did it. Now the koreans are not much involved into AA anymore. We can see some korean - and even japanese players occassionally but a south-eastern squad hasn?t seen the Ketsujin-server yet. I don?t know whats wrong. If its the time differences or the language barriers or whatever. Sad enough....... the community who helped us so much with accessing their server, doesn?t seem to play the game anymore, though it is still there.

In the very early days we decided on having 1 admin and 5 sysops per community. We decided also to let the americans have a part in it, since they probably send the biggest userbase....

There wasn?t an american admin back in the days, so we had to find one. Yes, WE had to find one and not you. Why is it ? This was because of different reasons:

1.) we hadn?t the time for all the ?election- procedures?

2.) we simply wanted to have not anyone but certain persons who helped us alot and supported us on KAA already and therefore deserved to get involved

3.) under no circumstances we wanted to have anyone, who was involved into the DBE-business back in the days, for different reasons.

So, we ?elected? (or rather decided on) Salami as being the 1st US-admin. He had a good reputation, did alot for the game and its community(ies) already and was very close with us on KAA already. Sal then discussed with us about his sysop-selection and we agreed. There was a change later because ?Bolt? passed away.

Shortly after USAAC opened its gates, Salami retired from the admin-position (RL-issues, I think) and appointed his successor:----->Temper. A good decision, as I think. Appointing sysops again is admins decision.

Right, no true elections in the good ol democratic sense of ?the nation elects its president?. It is more like: those who?re showing a level-headed mind and the willingness to do something for the game and its community getting a ?chance? to advance within the game - administration. Admins appointing their successors but not before having trained and teached them. e.g. I wanted to retire from the admin-position a long time ago already but couldn?t find a successor. There was TANK, a brilliant webmaster who probably deserved it most but unfortunately he is far from being level-headed and his ?ngame-decisions? were most often based on emotions--->symphaties and antipathies. Additionally his engl. language is not the best, which caused alot misunderstandings during conversations. (...some examples are still available somewehere on these boards) He himself closed all the open doors right in front of his nose.

No way....

Then TopSchrott, an old GCPro - player came back to the game. I didn?t knew him very well but after speaking to him on TS and after some very nice examples of his tech- and admin- skills, I knew this is a possible successor. After a couple of weeks I asked him, if he wanted to be my successor and he denied (which was a further indicator to me of him being the right man to do the job). Naturally I wasn?t pleased but decided to ask him again later....

A couple of weeks later I asked him again and he agreed but only, if I would stay behind his back and would show and explain to him everything what he needs to know.

So, The UKAAC appoints its Club-Captains after discussing it within ?the clique?, so does TAA. I appointed Toppi and everyone agreed, since he seemed to be the right person at the right time. Unfortunately he is currently also very busy working, which why I?m still here as his ?substitute?.

Mysteron got replaced by Nemo. Sal got replaced by Temper. Now, this is in no way democratic and the user base doesn?t get involved into such decisions at all. It is ?club-internal-issues?.

The appointment of sysops is very similar. Show good behaviour, a certain maturity, a level headed mind and a heart for the game and its community. Do something and be assured you?ll get a chance when the time has come....

We, the germans, the british, nor the koreans or the americans ?own? the game. But certain persons of the british and german administration-team have done a lot to find us a new game-server to play on for free and - of course - we do watch each other and taking care that noone gets in control, who would abuse the given power. Everything else is pretty much democratic.

Since it is the admins decision to appoint national sysops and sometimes it?s hard to find persons who fit into the ?requirements?, I?m sure all admins can do with ?suggestions?.
