How Google Ads work.

These Ads work on 'content' .. the content of the post is analyzed by Google, then Google places the 'content' appropriate ads in.

I'm not smarter than Google. Their machine is awesome, and their talents far exceed mine.

But I'm smart enough to understand that when you look at the first post .. and when its made.. to start with Google does not have enough content to figure out what should be.. and should not be "content" appropriate Ads.

Now look.. those ads are appropriate for the Title and content of the post made within here.

If the Ads as a money making venture are REALLY the complaint we can take them out. But, I would like to point out that TowNet ASKED the BoD from the onsets if the Ads could be placed in the AA Area. They ASKED and did NOT dictate. The reason they asked is because the USAAC had never donated or paid one single penny for anything they were GIVEN.

Those Ads generate so little income they could be removed with no impact to TowNet (its not easy to reformat the skin here however). Let the BoD decide upon that. Content wise political Ads are never supposed to show up .. public information Ads are supposed to be in place anytime Google can't actually figure out the content. Example: Feed the Poor, etc. Something in the content here generated that political ad at first, but as time went on and post were made.. other ads start to show up that are not political.

This explanation has been posted several times before as well as in the BoD area.

Forced to View

It may be in the interest of TidesofWar and maybe the USA AA BoD but not all have the same views as the Ads displayed either Dem or Rep, forcing a member to view something they dont believe in is bad for support. Since the support you ask for has nothing to do with Gov't Politics.

You drive down the road every day and see political ads on billboards .. are you forced to view?

You watch TV maybe everyday .. and see political ads all the time ... are you forced to view?

I say.. simply don't look at them, don't click them .. move on to next topic.

One would thinks that every Ad here is political .. this is just not the case and rather rare to see one in fact. Fact is if you are from another country .. you won't even see a USA political Ad (according to Google). If you are from a different region of the World .. you might see some AD that is directed toward your region.

Neither TowNet or USAAC has any political agenda that we want to force upon anyone. The system is the system and if it does not work 100% correct all the time .. it is no way the fault of anyone here .. and nothing is 'forced' upon you.

Ads appear at the very bottom of the forums .. most never even look at them. Most never even click on them. For most they are commercials that have been 'tuned out'.

About the Forums

Dear Mr Nitro,

You are a USAAC and Tbar hater .. I doubt you would ever have anything nice to say about anything the USAAC does or does not do... IMHO. I sure wish you would prove we wrong.

You said: "I will never post here again". Yet you do post at every opportunity to make a negative 'dig'. You never post on anything we do positive. Remember how you showed us all how easy it was to make a USAAC site .. you did it in 10 minutes I think you said. Also weren't you going to take all the USSAC members and give them something better? Maybe I'm confused.

It has been explained to you over and over .. your browser settings are the problem.

Its been explained to you over and over again .. if you come to the USAAC front door .. select forums.. you can't get "lost".

If you like, I can place you in a user group that ONLY see's the USAAC forums .. ONLY and nothing else. But I ask, is that really beneficially to all Air Airattack visitors? If I do that.. then the far more people who visit Tides of War .. won't see the AA forums.. won't wander in .. and won't download and play the game. Have you considered that?

If you truly have a better solution .. put it forward. It does NOT matter who host the site, what matters is how its all set up and what is best for most. In todays browser situation .. more and more sites are having this problem of having to tell users how to set up their browser to properly view the site etc. Some sites won't even let you use a hotmail or yahoo account any longer.

If you keep getting logged out .. its a cookie problem.. setting in MSIE because FireFox does not have that same problem.

If you keep getting "lost" .. then you are not using the front door of the USAAC site.. otherwise you have a button on the top of every page that says "forums".. click da button.

Speaking in terms of forums.

UKAA has forums .. they have many forums .. lots of forums .. you don't get lost there do ya? UKAA also host some squads .. you can't see those forums can you?

GEAA has forums .. lots of forums, however you can't see them all cuz your not GE.

If the UKAA forums.. or the GE forums had as much traffic as the Tides of War forums.. they too would have a lot more 'structure' of forums within forums. Standby .. because the UKAA has new forums and just now learning the 'power of' those sub forums.

At the USAAC we could get along with just TWO forums that YOU could see.

ALL AA related ( 10 miles long and 10 miles deep where you can't find what your really looking for)

All AA non related (again, probably very long and very deep)

All BOD/STaff stuff put in a forum YOU can't see.

However, the forums for the USAAC are all viewable .. because at some time in the furture .. someone just might want to get involved. Some forums are simply archive and records .. why mix them in with other stuff?

All the above.. had been explained .. over and over. Bottom line.. is the BoD decides how hey want their forums set up.

I have had my differences with tbar; we knock heads quite frequently.

I want to say though that I really appreciate what he has done for our community. Although I and others think we should have an independent site I wouldnt want TBar to think it was personal. Hes done a great job. We should all acknowledge this but I hope he will understand that we need to move on, if decided.

There is it seems a lot of suspicion because our site is run by another organization and because of the ads etc. Even if I dont agree with that I think we need to satisfy everyone that we really are independent. So Im casting my vote for a new site.

Tbar, don't lose sight of what the originator of this topic had in mind when she posted. It was an appeal for those who had issues with our site to air their grievances here instead of overseas. Nitro is one of those who has issues and he should feel free to air them as long as he does so in a civil and respectful manner. We want to encourage this sort of discussion so that folks will feel it is their home and that they have a right to express themselves. Not all will have the ability to articulate their thoughts as well as others but we must give them the right to say what they think.

Nitro, feel free to air your opinion on this site at any time. All we ask is that you try to be as positive as possible and not to knock things down just for the sake of doing so. We will defend your right to say what you think but try not to be insulting or disrespectful.

I haven't seen anything in this topic that suggests TBar is making money from the site, Air Boss. Several posts have, in fact, praised TBar for his dedication in making this site possible. Whilst we appreciate you adding your endorsement to the praise that is due to TBar we would prefer that you keep your language clean and show respect for the opinions expressed by others. Misspelling curse words does not excuse their use.

So far so good. We are getting some feed back on what makes folks dislike the present USAAC site. What it mostly boils down to, so far, is a desire for the community to have its own home; not tied to another organization which may have objectives that conflict with ours. Does that organization have an undesirable hold over us? Is it dictating policy that is not in our interests? I haven't seen it but I do understand the concerns and, perhaps, it is time for serious thought being given to us having a home that is ours and ours alone.
In this thread, I don't see any post where you are getting feedback that the community should have its own home. Not one post. So that feed back must be from some other source. In addition .. the community does have its own "home" .. look at the url .. its says www.airattack.us .

True, that when you 'tap' into the free forum source the url does change. If you went to any 'free' service you would find this true. If one defines "own home" by the forums location, this can be easily rectified by installing forums on the www.airattack.us site. This has pro's and con's. It is possible that the same forums as used now can have an IP mask made up also where the url does not change in the browser address bar..

The forums you use now are "skinned" for the USAAC, this is NOT free. It cost the TowNet folks 80.00 for that skin .. no charge to the USAAC.

Maybe if the USAAC paid for the services they get ... instead of everything free .. some might have another outlook.

Some history.. again

:)

When the USAAC was in infancy .. before there was a site, no one would donate a penny for its creation. No one would do anything because they all felt "it would never work". ALL the expense has always been picked up by your 'host'... Townet and the ToW Club.

In order to get the USAAC up and running. . as fast as possible .. with as little work as possible .. resources that were 'free' to to the creator of the site were used. Thus it was simple to tap into the Tides of War forums.

Tides of War is a community site that 'shares' resources with other organization to keep expenses down. They do not 'charge' for that but simply ask some little things in return.

UKAA supports their site by donations. USAAC members never donate one penny. UKAAC site at one time would not give you an avatar or siggy without a donation .. thus you were forced to donate for a little bit of privilege's. I do not know what the policy is on the new site but I suspect about the same. USAAC has no such system 'forced' upon its members/users. UKAA pays for most of its services. USAAC pays for nothing.

GEAAC is completely paid for and supported by a couple of chaps. GEAAC is much smaller than UKAA and a far lot smaller than the USAAC.

Ownership is something important to discuss.

UKAA is owned by whom? It certainly is not owned by the 'community'.

GEAA is owned by whom? It certainly is not owned by the 'community'.

Something always owns things. The owners are in control when it comes down to it. I have no knowledge of how the UKAAC or GEAAC is controlled by its owners, but I do know the owners of the USAAC domain have granted the USAAC full gifted rights. I do know that there is NO restriction on where the USAAC is moved.. or what forums they use. These area's are strictly up to the USAAC BoD. I do know that the USAAC has access to any system installed on the Townet system .. at no costs. I do know that the TowNet system is accessed by the AA CLP folks as a back up system .. no charge. I do know that Townet gives a lot to USAAC and the AA community. I do know that the Tides of War front page has given AA top billing for over a year .. and has brought in new pilots that otherwise may have never found AA.

At no time .. has the TowNet Organization ever dictated anything to the USAAC .. ever.

So the topic is .. 'what you don't like about this site'.

So far we have "political ads" and Nitro who just hates Tbar :)

Without posting we can add FD Squad because TZU said so at the last BoD meeting he had that FD was pulling out and would never use this site.

We can be ad free .. TowNet will remove the ads if asked to, but they can't do it over night as the 'skin' is formated for the ads and that is NOT simple to deal with. I do ask however .. will anyone donate to TowNet to help cover the costs? I doubt it.

Can the USAAC simple install its own forums. Yes.. and no. Yes it can be done and would be done if requested by the BoD. No in that some forums and systems are high security risks.

Can the USAAC move their site to some other location. Sure, they were told that from day one .. and they know it. Does it matter who hosts the site? Move it .. where are you moving it too? Who has control then? Who pays the bills?

Whey don't we have a topic on "What you like about this site"? Why always negative :)

PS: Forgive AirBoss .. he probably thinks I'm being personally attacked again :)

LOL.. it took me so long to make the post above that when I finally posted there were several more posts :)

So ..

Redacteur .. before your post what I said was true .. there were NO post concerning moving the site etc.. where you got your summary from sounds like an agenda you had in mind already :)

I made my post to be detailed and contain a lot of information .. for those that like the short story... the USAAC is free to move the site anyplace they like .. and they have known that from the insight.

Completely independent .. what does this really mean? Define that. Independent of what?

by the sounds of things... some might get the impression that I'm fighting to keep the USAAC on the TowNet system from some some self interest or some type of 'control' reason. There are NONE .. and if you can think of one.. please let me know :)

Yes, TowNet also host the BSS .. they would host any squad that needed some space. If TowNet also hosted the BBC or Usha .. would that be a reason to move the site? Let the BoD decide because it makes no real difference to Tbar .. or TowNet.. or Tides of War .. or to the Tow Club. :)

Where is the Beef .. what is the problem? I fail to see it. If .. once you are moved .. and someone thinks where you are hosted is not to their liking .. move it again? If they don't like the forums installed .. move the site? If they don't like the colors used .. move the site? If they don't know how to use their browser .. move the site?

Besides .. moving the site is really off topic ain't it?

Lets expand .. what you like.. and what you don't like. Then what ever the BoD decides.. they can use your input :)

PS.

These post take too much time.. lol. I'll respond to any direct question asked just to 'inform' but I feel my input has run its course :)
