Concerning Pin Dropping

The things of which we may be justifiably proud are many and self evident. It is not necessary for us to boost our self image with misquotes and fabrications aimed at denigrating other countries. To do so is not humerous; it is a clear attempt to be insulting and should be beneath our national dignity.

I love the United States (the land of my adoption), I love the United Kingdom (the land of my forefathers) and I love France (the land of my late husband).

Any of you have visited the Normandy coastal region will know that the landing beaches are treated with reverence. The French people treat visitors, especially veterans, with the utmost respect. Everywhere along that coast you will find reverent and respectful symbols dedicated to those who died in the beach landings. The flags of all the participating nations are flown with pride.

My late husband and my late brother both served their respective countries with honor. They had nothing but praise for the United States military but they would be offended by the sort of misguided "humor" quoted in the "pin dropping" post.

Our countries may not always agree on the right course of action in any given set of circumstances but we will not come closer together by insulting each other. The need is to build bridges not to blow them up.

I happen to agree , in total with the your whole post ... so well said I might add.

The 'original' post was made by a good community member and I'm sure it was not made to attack or degrade another country or its people (this was my thinking) .. it was made on the humor side .. but non the less does actually attack those peoples. I so stated by amending his post and signing it, however I was not sure if USAAC moderators could remove that post according to our own rules. At the time I felt it best to leave the post up .. but close it, while I address this matter in our Executive Forums.

I personally want everyone to know .. it should be done. Speak when you feel the need, simply watch the wording. This is the place to do so .. .so we can all grow. How else can we really honestly examine some subject if we don't open up .. listen.. as well as speak?

This matter will be on the next BoD Agenda.

I could error on the side of caution and take it down, but I'm not the Forum Manager, and I'm not the total voice of the USAAC .. I felt the post itself gave opportunity for a USAAC discussion and revisit of our forum rules and thus left it, but reposted the content in quotes from the 'source'. I removed the link however.

I may have been in error in my judgment/method, but again I'm unsure of our own rules on this topic and dead set against removing topics because *I* don't like the content.

If you find this post 'removed' within a few days .. you will know the USAAC made a ruling on the post (content). Until then I do not feel I have the right to remove this post.

Don't take it down tbar. Everyone has a right to their opinion and censorship because we disagree is not our way as you know; as long as it is done in a civil manner.

I should have added that I recently posted as TS_Xena on the UK forums expressing my disagreement with a thread there that criticized us for the way we handle our business. I just do not like to see us becoming involved in nationalistic flame wars instead of using our energies in a more constructive fashion. I would dearly love to see all the communities co-operating with each other rather than looking for differences to criticize.

Oh and by the way I do understand that the original "pin drop" post was not intended maliciously. I know Honolulu too well to believe that. I am concerned, though, about how this type of post is perceived by our friends in other countries.

I think you should consider lending aid and help to the USAAC community... we need good people to help out.
