Do I Have To Sink Kaiser Wilhelm?

I surface mission 10b USA' date=' do I have to sink the batleship Kaiser Wilhem? I tried this now 25 times. The last time all the destroyers and subs where taken. Only thing left was the Kaiser Wilhelm and a doesen planes.
The orders says "Attack the Kaiser Wilhelm and cut the battlegroup down to force. Keep fritz occupied.....or something" I really have cut the force down to minimum I think!!!

The USA doesn't field a BB in this chapter.  You job on the US surface side is to turn the Kaiser Wilhelm away from it's intended destination - the Faroe Islands.  This mission relies on you doing enough damage to the Kaiser that she is turned back.  You don't have to sink her.  You do however have to stay alive.
Best tactic is to give orders to your allied ships and bring them all to target the Kaiser.  You need to keep the other ships off yours.  Keep your range a bit too or you become the prime target of the VWBug launching gunners aboard the Kaiser (2200lb 15" shells).

How do you like being in battle against the big ships?

It's pretty hard   but I got it at last.
