Any Tips For Sinking Subs ?

#1
i just cant get the hang of using the darned depth charges. whats the right timing for dropping the charges? how do i know how deep the submarine is? how do you sink em? it seems really hard for me... any tips ?
In responding to many queries like this one' date=' I have always overlooked the best answer.  We programmed our AI to act like a submariner would.  The source for much of the submarine AI tactice?  DAS BOOT.  If you watch what they do when they are under attack and when they are attacking..bingo...that's what ours do.  After a submarine attacks he will usually go deep and try to hide.  You can keep him in the area by dropping your speed to 1/3 or so.  He will slow down to try and stay invisible.
Be sure to lead the sub, drop mid first then drop deep further in front of where the sub is going.[/quote']
Another thing to keep in mind is the amount of time it takes for a sub to dive.
Try a couple of the sub missions to see what I mean.

If you time the dive(s)' date=' that can give you a rough idea of the max depth a sub may have got to by the time you're in position to let loose the 'bins of war'  :D

Even if you don't score a hit at least it gives you a feeling of a controlled attack rather than just dumping to random depths.[/quote']
well' date=' sadly, it seems nearly impossible to lead a sub because it constantly keeps changing course and i cant catch up with it...[/quote']
