I was just flying in the FFA arena against about 10-15 pilots. There was a majority of pilots ranked as "Cdt" (whether they were or not is a different issue) but I was flying by my own opinions of "Do not engage a pilot ranked "Cdt" or "POf" (as they are new pilots) unless they engage you. <-- Would you say that statement is correct.
I told the people in the arena that, and my reply was "I will shoot at the rookies anyway, if they are rookies they should go to the rookie arena".
I believe that statement to be wrong as:
1. Flying in the full open arena (with generally better pilots than themselves) will improve their flying. I reckon that if you wish to improve at anything you should "take on" a tougher opponent than yourself.
2. Rookie arena is most of the time empty and so they will be flying all on their own <-pointless!
My actual question is:
-->Should new pilots be engaged - so they learn to avoid? or should they be left alone to learn to avoid after they have engaged someone?

FFA = FREE FOR ALL... YES? Besides, Rank these days doesn't mean jack!
It's basically up to you how you treat them.
A lot of the coc rules/behaviour pointers regarding runwaying, allowing a plane to land/take off , and spawning are supposed to be partly to help the newer players avoid the frustration of getting killed over and over again. This of course doesn't work well because if the experienced pilots give no quarter in the air the new guys will die over and over again in any case.
So it is down to us, as experienced pilots, to decide how we treat newer pilots. Some ppl don't give a t*ss and will continue killing them over and over, whilst others won't kill a new guy at all. Personally, I go for the middle ground and will mostly avoid killing them. If there's space and I can give them a taste of a turn fight then I will do. If they are suffering at the hands of serial cadet killer then my own actions may stray slightly from the coc - if you get my drift ....ooh did I say that out loud?

If you come into the arena and type in you are new and keep friendly communication allot of experienced pilots will pass from shooting you too many times. Most of the times you wont even realize this since they will be higher than you or behind you. If you ask for all to take it easy on you might find yourself being killed a little less.
If you feel you cannot take off of the runway because you are being shot at too much before you get a chance to get back up.... just escape from game after you are on runway and stopped and any damage goes back to zero. Then come in again and you will have spawned in the air fresh.
I do engage in shooting one or 2 select friends on the runway as fun but generally killing someone on the runway is not allowed. Also shooting from the runway is not allowed.

New Pilots Should Be Engaged. How else can they learn?
New Pilots Should NOT be taken advantage of. Do you really need a kill that badly?
When I realize a pilot is new or too ez a kill .... I avoid.
If a pilot announces he is new and please take it ez on them .... I respect that.
If a person ask for pointers or help ... I give it regardless of rank.
If I see a pilot struggling .. gettting frustrated etc. I explain things to him .. give him words of comfort and encouragement. And .. I always advise them to find a 'squad' to hang with.. learn with ..
There many imature pilots out there .. and FFA certainly draws its share. These inmature pilots that just don't care and will constantly hammer an obvious noob ... nothing will ever fix that. Maybe some can be influenced ..
There are also just as many 'good guys' out there that should always try and help out.
There are also a lot of "immature noobs" .. and noobs that are rude, etc. Those types are bound to draw attention and death ... probably as it should be.
I do wonder often .. why there are so many new pilots .. and why they don't survive.
I play by my own CoC which adds a little to the AA CoC .. I raise the bar a little bit. I just won't abuse a noob.

Hey Psy,
Briefly after chatting with Tbar and from his advice, (for which I will stand by) being,
it is Ok to post, but mostly,,, Keep within the subject and topic matter, and it is best to
ask a question for answers from others such as you have, I told my self that I would
refrain from posting any comments in general, but by doing this, I my self need to gain
any knowledge and or help from others such as your topic points out, so my opinion
only as follows;
I whole heartedly agree with all posted replys from all the aforementioned pointed out
by these experienced pilots and veterans to this game!!! And having said that, also leaves
a door still opened for what is "The honorable and right thing to do when about to engage
a new or unexperienced pilot?" Your topic question for the right answer goes pretty deep
and to the heart and core of playing this game in general!!!
I as a fresh rookie have came up against that very same situation on numerous occasions
flying in the rookie arena and in the FFA arena.,,, And I know the feelings of frustration of
never getting the hang of this game, and yes, held resentment towards veteran pilots a few,
who have taken advantage of my lack of flying ability and etc.., and the veteran pilot also
had under gone same feelings in the beginning when they first played on AA too!,, So
quite frankly, "the golden rule, do unto others as you would want them to do unto you!" or
do it to them, before they do it to you!!!!", either way this will always be a part of the game,
and up to the pilot's own judgment and how he conducts him or herself when this type of
situation arrises coming in to contact with a new pilot!
My opinion and answer is "Yes" engage, but to wantonly, intentionally and without regards to
any new pilot's unexperienced in general, " To seek out any new pilot, in a continuous stalk for
the primary purpose either being to keep up a higher kill ratio and or just to torment that player,
is wrong in doing so in general, and has no "Honorable Justification Whatsoever" that any pilot
can state or give for their reason in doing the aforesaid! Respectfully, Cutter

This sounds like your making me out to be a new pilot? Anyways, thanks for the info guys.. I'll just have to stick to my own judgements and follow the CoC as best i can.If you come into the arena and type in you are new and keep friendly communication allot of experienced pilots will pass from shooting you too many times.
