Mr Gunslinger,
If you never read any of my post again .. your quote; That is your right, my duty is to answer post if I can.. even if I am wrong. Being wrong does not mean we can't all gain from knowing via replies what is right/correct. In this case, I think I'm right and you have missed a few points. Why you get so upset anyway? Its just a game.
Also .. I am nice.
Think: Since I made this post .. how many really good 'ace' pilots, experienced in AA have read this post .. and how many have read the thread since you made your post and I replied. If I was 'wrong' .. I think they would have said so... or clarified some points.
Consider: The game of AA is very old and was not written to accomodate all the latest goodies. Every observation I have made since playing this game is that the keyboard is faster. Some of the best pilots in AA fly by keyboard. As to why the stick is just not as fast, I do NOT have the tech expertise to make comment. I just know it is by observation. If you ever have opportunity to fly behind a good pilot on a keyboard .. I think you will NOT be able to match his moves...... ... close maybe. This stick by nature was designed to be sooth .. and I think that is what slows up the stick a bit. A game pad is faster than a stick .. again as to why .. I don't know.
The game is so old that almost any 'old' computer can run AA game as fast as todays lightening fast computers. No advantage for the high tech guy. It is always true that if your running a lot of other software and bogging down your processor .. ya .. it will run slow. Most folks when they play AA don't have super computers and don't run other programs in the background while trying to fly. If you computer is free from other tasks .. it can run Team Speak and AA as well as any other computer.
Connections: ISP and connection type of course playing into consideration as to "lag" etc. Most 56k modems that have good connections all the way to the server have no problems. Remember the game is old .. and was written for modem play.. way before all the high speed providers came along. I can't prove this, but I've always felt that 56K modem players with good connections .. have an advantage over the high speed connection players! All that High Speed connection I have does me no real advantage over a modem player at all.... for the game of AA.
Lastly .. personal comment: I do not insult you, or run you down. I simply answer questions best I can. Again, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Why do you attack me? Why all this?:
This category and topic is for 'flight school' not 'fight school'. If you want to stick to topic great .. otherwise keep the personal slams and digs in another area.

... You have been at it so long, it's going to your head, It is only a game, it is not real, you are not flying a real plane or simulator, just a 'CARTOON" make believe, My God Tbar, your beginning to sound like my 32 year old daughter ...
Code: Select all
... good advice for newbies who might be easily brow beaten to where they think and feel they are inferior to Tbar tag: "Maverick" real name Tom Cruise, actor, stared in "TOP GUN" current occupation and pass time Alias "Tbar" still playing the roll ....Tbar,
After another pilot informed me to read your latest reply, for which at the time, I
said NO, well here I'am, And I have to admit that your reply is more so in the realm
of courteous & polite.,, And I found that you have explained it in a good way!
Yes you are right, this is flight school not fight school!,,, Prior to reading this latest
reply from you, I'm in agreement with you!!!, Also I went to practice in the "Rookie
Arena" And you know, there were only 3 planes, Me, Flt_Trash & SdL something, any way,
I found that they are good pilots and I enjoyed the time with them, I kill them & they Killed
me, and when we all parted and said "Cya" !
Now as for planes being the same, I was not 100% correct, I went back to examine by
flying both planes, That SU, US, GB & GE provides in the FFA arena, and some are slower
and faster! Also found that I prefer at this point to fly only the US B51 & the GB Spitz for
handling & firing cannons, but, with one exception to the GE plane first choice on screen's
right, it has the GB' similar handling, but lacks the firing capability compared in my opinion
only when you match GB's against GE's.
Finally in conclusion, I will refrain from giving advice as to how a player should improve
their game, rather if asked in the future by anyone "Can you help me............", I will advised
those person's to ask that question(s) to a more experienced player (pilot), And Lastly.,,
Affirmative> Insults & personal attacks on another only fuels the fire and no one likes being
ridiculed period. GUNNY / Semper Fi

When you have been around for a bit, have some experience, have learned some of the ins and outs ... then it will be your turn to help out the noobs. You should do so when that time comes. When you reach this time of knowing, then its time you "pay back" the community for the help you received. You do so by helping out new pilots .. Not by refereeing them to other pilots.. Take care of their needs at the time. They normally only need the basic's to start with which you can provide. Anything you're not sure of.. Tell them what you think is right, but advise them to make a post/question where many more pilots of all skill levels can give advice also. Our goal is too keep new pilots in the game .. train them so they can be competitive and enjoy the game as we do.
In a few days or so I will clean out this thread so it gets back to what it was meant to be "flight school". I'll move your posts and my posts and post in between to a topic called "Gunny School". I can't just delete the information as it's against policy, but I can move some. I want noob pilots to come here and get right to the facts .. Not reading thru a bunch of off topic and stressed out pilots gibberish
Tbar,
Well said and well put!!!! I'm in agreement with your latest reply 100 %!,
by the way, 'Do not take that reply prior to this one serious! I was joking,
when you refered to 'Stressed Out" Giberish., Thank you, Jerry / GUNSLINGER

This is really not true.2. Joy Stick is (Secretariat race horse) vs Keyboard (Poky Old Mining Mule) for Control Commands in
flight and in general game play!
The best players in the game use keyboard and there is no way to keep up with them using a Joystick.
Using the keyboard is harder to learn and needs fast fingers, but generally you will be better than others once you can master it.
Right Tank, I was misinformed by a lot of veteran pilots in the beginning,
after I told them I was using key board,,,and their replies at that time
by chat in the FFA arena was, "Once you use a Joy Stick" you will never
go back to keyboard, or " If I had to use a key board, I wouldn't play!"
and other comments such as that, Yes I use a key board, and I'm
not an avid typist, so I have to limit the keys I use to the most basic ones,,,
For instance, I NO longer need Alt, Entry and several others that to me are
non important, such as R for record. Well in do time, maybe I will over
hitting the wrong keys beside or above the ones I use,,, I got tired of
having to clear a key that was conflicting with proper control command key
that was already in use, such as hitting "Space Bar to fire" and clumsy
right pinky finger hitting the "Alt" causing the message "To All:" come
up, so I have to stop firing and hit "Enter" to clear it, cause the plane will
not do any thing other than fly straight, even when you are trying to use
flap & rudder commands to turn to escape or keep on some one's tail!
To prove this, ask any key board operator, what happens even if you hit the
"Gag Pilot" key "Q" by mistake, freezes plane in flight, until you clear
the key, but, usually your shot down or damaged due to your clumsy
fingers hitting wrong keys not intentionally! So like I said, I changed a lot
of assigned commands to different keys on the other side to avoid hitting
them accidently! Now that's a good tip for a "Hunt & Pick Key Typist like
me! Gunny ? Semper Fi Tank

OK, if you use Keyboard check out the settings a pilot called Prayer use.
Keyboard settings
I think this will help to find the right settings.
Sure the usage of a Joystick makes it more easy to learn the game and having quick success, but in the end the keyboard players have a lot advantages.
A must is to be quick on the keyboard. If your a bit stiff in the fingers than maybe a Joystick is the right thing.
What to use is everyones own decision. Important is you feel good at using it.

Tank, Yep to feeling comfortable being able to use the right tool that is easier
and not so complicated due to one's ability and lack of skill in using that tool,
and especially pertaining to the operator, who has to have a very good memory
of what control command each key does and aplly that knowledge through their
finger tips at a faster rate of speed, for which a fluent typist needs not to have to
look down periodically for keys location, for which I'm guilty of those few precious
seconds, has cost me by looking down at the keys, "lost view of the enemy on screen,
crashing or being damaged by a pilot, for my failure to view the screen at all times!
So in conclusion, even though the commands by using a Joy Stick might be fractions
of seconds less in reaction to the key board's, but., like you said, the Joy stick could
compensate for all the loss seconds that I lost by using the key board., and this
due to my being a klutz with big hands! Thank you for your advice and wisdom Tank.
