Below is a periscope view of one of the RNE freighters (background), with one of U-182's torpedos about to rip through its hull. The streak of the propelled torpedo appears as a white dot in the water, just to the right of the freighter.
An RNE Raiko class destroyer escort (foreground), running in circles, launches depth charges into the water, in a failed attempt to destroy the U-182. The U-182 later sank this destroyer escort and another one that failed to protect the covoy.

On its way back from the successful mission, the U-182 was accosted by several RNE bombers. The U-Boat's anti-aircraft guns kept them at bay long enough for the sub's crew to safely get below and dive out of harm's way, leaving the planes with nothing to do but return empty-handed back to their bases in Brazil.
