How To Sink A Battleship ?

#1
I played the german campaign and after the RNE sunk the Prinz Edward
I had the chance to shoot 3 torps

at the Hood; all 3 detonated.

I got a second chance , but only 2 of 3 torps hit the target !

But what a surprise the Hood shows no effect ( only dark dust).

6 torps and the hood is  not sinking !?

Please help a frustrated Korvettenkapitain
im not shore where but i rember there was an artical on number of torps needed to sink vessels and the Battlecrusers need a hell of a lot probably 15 plus so unless you pack 8 torps like the allince destroyer it needs a lot luck to servive long enough to fire a second salvo.
For subs even the I-15 6 shooter  i gess it must be neer impossable
Most often torpedos did little damage on Battleships and BattleCruisers who sported a torpedo bulge or dual walled sections to absorb the explosions.
I will warn you however that you probably can't sink the Hood.  You can sink the Kaiser and the Prince but not the Hood.

Sounds like a Challenge East. All I need now is my copy of the US release to take you up on it! (hint hint).
hmmm thinking about East's response I have several dissenting remarks.
Although Battleships were certainly better armoured, and had, depending on the ship, extroadinary ability to stay afloat,(the Bismarck for inst ance

was unusual in that it had nickel plated armor around the ship for torpedo

attacks), they were by no means invulnerable to sinking by torpedos, which seems to be the suggestion of the Hood in the above post(maybe simply

a gameplay prohibiiton, not a historical one.)  I might remind all that the

Repulse and the Prince of Wales were sunk by torpedo planes near

Malaysia.  I once fired eight torps from my LFN sub, and the BB kept truckin,

only to be sunk moments later by a salvo from my friendly BB, who got the

credit Image ...My thinking was that it probably takes 10 torps minimum,

or something like that to sink a BB.  The Hood ironically, was part of the

older dreadnaught class of ships, which according to First Lord of the Admiralty, Fisher, sacrificed armor for speed.  This was highly controversial,

and in Jutland gave the more heavily armored German ships better survivability.  The Hood should be more vulnerable to torps than say,

the Bismarck, or Tirpitz, or Yamamoto.

Hopefully, when we revert to specific damage on ships, a well placed or lucky

torpedo might lead to a sinking in that the magazine explodes, etc. etc.

Just me two cents.

sorry East forgot that
Perhaps if you tried an emergency surface and just as your bow broke through the waves you fired all your torpedos thus launching them into the air.
They would become flying fish and would land on the Hood's weak deck plates precisely above the powder magazine and BOOM.

After all... It's a different world!
Remember this is an alternate reality
I believe I read in one of the captain's logs/mission texts a reference to the "Hood's new deck armour".  I think the Hood has been reinforced whereas her sister ship(s) may well not have been.

Re the number of torpedos to sink remember it takes two torps to sink a corvette & four a destroyer - if you scale those numbers up then 15 for a battlecruiser doesn't seem so out of proportion.

Not sure why a battlecruiser has the designation 'BB' though (or for that matter, how a motor torpedo boat with no ASW capability is termed "Sub Hunter"!)

youd have to be about 10 meters away from that bb to hit it with an unpropelled torpedo    a little close for comfort especially with powder magazines exploding in your face. ouch
I played this mission last night and fired at least nine torpedoes into the Hood - all detonated. She steamed away pretty as a picture.
I was frustrated until I noticed that she's specifically mentioned in the next mission and since the SP missions are not truly dynamic, I am guessing that no, we won't be able to sink the Hood when we first meet her.
Well NOTHING on the map should be UNSINKABLE.. except maybe the
unsinkable Molly Brown.  As she said in the Titantic, "you don't see that every day".

Hood smood.  Nice ship. she went down.  so did lots of others.

Scenarios that include ships that can't be sunk should be sunk.
The hardest thing to do with Enigma is to not combine the metaphors.  Single-Player Campaigns tell a linear story.  If a ship is in the next chapter...guess what...we have to keep her alive.  There isn't much of a way around it since we can't "write the story" while you are playing it - far too expensive and unpredictable.
Multiplayer we WILL be writing the story while you play it so if the HOOD or some other significant ship gets sunk, she gets sunk.

Please try to remember that singleplayer is a different beast and, unlike Silent Hunter II/Destroyer Command, Enigma is a multiplayer game first with singleplayer just a requested feature.

The upcoming singleplayer will also have some fixed assets that you cannot sink because of story requirements.  Our only other choice was to be certain you were so overwhelmed that you just had no chance to sink it.  We found that to be substantially more frustrating.

At least this way you get to live!

Pfft! sez you! I've exhausted the supply of Fletchers for the entire Atlantic fleet and no joy (US surface 10b) Guess the secret is to stay grouped up with your ron and take the DDs out.
a motor torpedo boat with no ASW capability is termed "Sub Hunter"!
I take it back - reading up on the history of the German Schnellboot it seems that they were originally designated as "Sub Chasers" - part of the ploy to get around the Treaty of Versailles.
