Tides Of War Server

When FI first started up and we needed a home on the web, I turned to Tides of War because it is something I have been involved with as an admin for many years and could use for "free" hosting of the website and forums.

Its not really free of course. Running a server costs money, quite a lot of money, and in the case of ToW it is generally a few individuals that foot the bill. Ongoing costs include, amongst other things:

• Software licenses
• Custom skinning
• Domain registration fees
• Server hardware maintenance
• Monthly data centre rental

There is also a small team of volunteer staff who perform necessary but largely unseen tasks from backups and software updates through to forum moderation. All this is taken care of so that members can concentrate on having fun playing the games they enjoy.

In our World of Warcraft forums, we enjoy a custom WoW skin as well as complete control of layout and freedom from banners or Google ads.

We also have our own password protected channels on the TeamSpeak server.

In short, we get quite a lot for nothing.

Now it has come to the point that our server needs a new RAID disk array. This is being purchased directly by the TowNet co-owners, myself included.

To help with the ongoing costs, I'm asking the WoW community at tides to help out. Obviously, one off donations are always welcome but what we are really looking for is a small monthly PayPal donation from as many of our members as possible. For example, just US$75 per month would cover the monthly rental and is not a vast sum between all of us.

On the Feral Instinct home page (bottom left) there is a button which takes you direct to the PayPal site with a preset subscription of $5. That's about the same as a pint of beer a month - wouldn't you buy the people who bring you Tides of War a pint?
