Once a company has your money why would any resonable buisness person want to invest another dollar with zero return (It's just bad business) They are going to either shelve it or sell you another box.
First of all, as I've already mentioned, I would be more than happy to spend an extra fixed sum on a separate MP supplement.

Second of all, as I've also already mentioned, while some people are willing to spend $120 yearly to feed their addictions, I wouldn't and I don't think I'm alone. Even Codfish's post above states that maybe you'll get 4 months out of him and that's that.

Third, if a company's fixed price product (or products) is/are successful, they can call it quits and buy an island in the Pacific but most tend to keep at it and put out expansions, sequels and new versions - because that's good business.

It's not going to be for everyone (nothing is) and that's ok ;) but the truth of the matter is once the decision is made to go MASSIVE Multiplayer the only real feasible options in pay as you play. For those who like Enigma but don't want to pay for multiplayer you have single player. Some of you love massive multiplayer but don't feel paying $40 for a box and then get hit monthly on top of it, you?re covered too. Enigma multiplayer will be a free D/L. If your a hardcore Enigma fan (Like me) then buy the Single player work on your skills and get ready for Multiplayer! If all you are interested in is LAN games then..... Well they are programmers not magicians :). It's ok not to want to pay a monthly fee I don't think anyone can knock you for it but what Tesseraction is planning for the gamming community can only be achieve by going this route. Tough decisions have to be made when developing a game concept. Only time will tell how well they will do in the MMP market but for the market they are in they are real reasonable with their pricing structure.

I was reading this post and quite frankly it got me a little bit upset.

I have been playing Everquest now for over 3 years,, started out with original

disc, and 9.95 a month to play it.

Since the beginning there have been 6 expansions added to the game, and the

monthly rate has increased to now 12.95 per month.

If you add all that up it comes to around $750 . I know this sounds like a lot of money, and it is. But tell me what else i could have done for 3 years, that would

have given me as much fun for so long for the same price? The answer is,,

NOTHING.

My point is, I love to play online games and if there good and well suported I dont

mind paying a monthly fee.

You all at tesseraction games have done a fantastic job with the single player

version of enigma the rising tide. If the multi player can offer the same graphics,

regular patches with upgraded weapons and new options to keep the game fresh,

Im looking forward to playing.

For those who want to whine or complain about a monthly fee,,, dont play.

You get what you pay for.

:)

Air Warrior II/III (not sure about I) both had dynamic worlds that changed constantly (basically Aces High with older graphics). Those are both pretty old games (pre EQ/CS/QUAKE) and both were MMP by any standard. MMP is not really that new, anyway neither of those could be played LAN style either as far as I know. For the same reasons as have been already given here.

I am almost the opposite of Avon in that I own numerous titles that can be played LAN style but only play via the 'Net'. If giving up LAN play in ERT means less hacking in the game then I am all for it. Jeez it is obvious from at least two threads (not this one) that some folks are already trying to hack/crak the game.

MMP Subscriptions just do not cost that much a month/year (not to mention the first month is almost always free). I cannot envisage anyone who is running a machine that meets the specs for ERT that does not have access to $120-180 a year in 'play' money. That is just goofy, I mean come on pull the other leg. They can afford/obtain a $1000 system but not $9-15 a month for entertainment? Yeah right.

I mean to put it in perspective, one could take all the money they save a month from not playing/subbing to a single MMP and maybe order a nice medium (large on tuesdays) pizza once a month. When I was a broke youngster I ate a lot more than one pizza month and generally had a few beers to go along with them

On the other hand I absolutely respect the fact that someone might not WANT to pay on a subscription basis to play online.

Anyway I have subbed to several games over the years, and even the worst ones were well worth the subscription cost. At least at the level of entertianment value time vs cost.

In a perfect world TAG would throw a few more missons/campaigns or allow some degree of user customization to missions/campaigns to hold us till MMP launches. But I am purty happy with what they have given us so far.

I eagerly await the MMP launch of ERT, everything else is just training IMO.

In that case, maybe it is a perfect world :P

Whilst the upcoming patch does not add more missions, it does unlock more ships (Schnellboote & Hood-class Battlecruisers), add greater detail to the weapons and tactical controls and allow more customisation of the "On Patrol" missions.

Work on a mission editor is under way, although it won't be in this update.
