Disc Imaging Software

i bought enigma the day it came out, and even today, i still count it as one of very few games that can totally immerse my unimaginative brain.

my preferred method for my rare gaming sessions, is to use images of my discs loaded into virtualization software, such as the free version of alcohol 52 (www.alcohol-soft.com). ive never been able to successfully create an image that will work while playing enigma with anything! (uh... kudos east hehe). enigma is the only game i have that i cant create a usable image of, so if anyone has any advice, id really appreciate it.

and no, just in case anyone asks, im not trying to pirate the game. im just trying a) avoid using the cdrom drive, and i prefer to keep the original packed away, as i have cats and kids (both destructive over time to items that sit out on my desk).

All I 'll say is that published versions of the game exist, sans Starforce, which allowed some to do what you wanted.

It's a moot issue now considering today's announcement of an upcoming game patch to allow exactly what you want.

The EULA states that you are not allowed to create/duplicate the contents of the CD-ROM disc. ergo you are not allowed to create an image for Alcohol120.

If you have the old retail version you can create a bin/cue set with Nero or CDRWin and load it onto Daemon-Tools; However you are not allowed to, and it is illegal to duplicate copyrighted material. So it is at your own risk if you decide to do so.

i did go back earlier today and re-read the eula. i find it strange that it attempts to close the option for me, the consumer, to create a single backup copy of the installation media for my personal use. on top of that, the $8 replacement feature, is only good for one year after the game was purchased, and only with warranty card filled out. i myself, am probably more than 2 or 3 years past when i originally bought the game (when did enigma come out, anyway?), and i certaintly by now have no receipt. furthermore if i open the box, im sure to find an unfilled out warranty card.

and my disk has become fairly scratched over time. either way, ill be watching that new thread about the patch like a hawk!

I am not a lawyer, but going from the US Code, that section of the EULA may be irrelevant in US courts.

Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 117, US Code states that a computer program may be copied, so long as the copy is necessary to use the program (may be applicable), or the copy is for maintenance (again, may be applicable).

As for the patch... I paid $30-35 to buy ERT in the first place, my computer meets or exceeds the minimum requirements, therefore, the program should run. That said, I will NOT pay another dime to make a program that the developer says will work on my machine work.
