Nice pictures, Eido - how's the internet connection in Greenland? I used to live there for a couple of years and the phones were absolute crap, but that was in '87, so things have probably changed. Also, I'll pass on the advice I was given on my first day there: Don't eat yellow snow.

Ps. If you pass through Frederiksdal, there's some kickin' rad trout fishing where the small stream from the station empties out into the fjord.

How funny - i was also in Greenland in 87. Lived there as a child from 1983-87 (was 7 when we moved up there). Where did you live? I was in Nuuk, so pretty standard.

But as for the internetconnection. Well its not great, but it could be worse i guess. I have a constant delay of 0.8 seconds due to the internet getting transmitted via sattelite and not by cords in the ocean (might come later, much later). So my latency is typical between 900 and 1150, but the good thing is that the delay is constant, so no lag, "just" delay. Ive gotten used to playing with it. The interspeed up here is tolerable at best, and there is no such thing as flatrate. Its all flexrate, so i pay heavily for my terrible wow afflication. But look on the bright side - atleast i can play.

I think that about covers it.

Augh, so you're playing on dial-up? But I imagine the service is at least stable?

From late March to late June last year I was playing from Cape Town and enjoying 500ms on a good day and 1800+ on a bad day. That is, if the international internet connection was running that day. Telkom, the national telephone monopoly, owned the overseas cable connections and would shut them down if a certain trafic cap had been reached. Oh, and IP packets were shaped at the point of exiting the country so game trafic would get almost shut down if there were heavy demand on the connections on a given day. Joy!

Try soloing on a druid and attempting the ol' bash-shift-heal-shift routine under those conditions. That's why I started my lock - I figured the dots would finish off runners while the signal made the 20.000km round-trip :)

I lived in Frederiksdal from late '84-'87. Go south from Nanortalik until you're 50kms from Cape Farewell, and you're there. It's a very small village that I've been told is the southermost human habitation on Greenland - my dad did maintenance on a couple of generators that were amplifying (or something) the signals that came via cable from Denmark to the rest of Greenland (I'm not too sure of the details). Lonely place for a white kid, but damned good fishing and I did get a helicopter ride when I almost broke both my legs in an iceberg accident!

Last monday we celebrated "Fastelavn", im not sure they call elsewhere, but its the day when you dress up as whatever you can think of, and then you stand in line and whack a barrel full of candy. This year i was an evil killer robot as you can see in the picture (only problem was that I couldnt see out of that little hole).

Anyone else dress up as all ladies and doctor, animals, karate experts, superheroes or other fun stuff, or is it only in denmark/greenland we are that silly?
