Some Thoughts On The European Pack Design

#1
This game it's spreading in my office like a virus.
I knew almost nothing about it' date=' but somebody at work played it one day during the luch-time break and I was so impressed I gough it two days later. A week from that 2 more guys have bought it after seeing us play.

Problem is that when I saw it before in the shops the pack allways put me off. It just doesn't show clearly what the game is about, or how nice it really looks. It's all a bit confusing to be fair...

Today I was talking about this at work and these guys felt the same. They had been waiting for this kind of game for a very long time, but the pack just didn't show what was all really about.

If you change it for the US release, please show screenshots as nice as the ones in your website, show the waves, show the binoculars view, show some underwater action next to a sinking ship. Show some aircraft getting smashed by flak... there's just so much to show... Oh, and above all, change the front image to something more clear. This game deserves it :)

Capt' date='  Thanks for the feedback, it's some of the first we've had about the packaging.
We were going for a "cinematic" style cover - more like a movie than a game - to try and help distinguish the type of game it is.  The USA release has a similar cover, but has 8 screenshots in a centerfold plus scores, quotes, etc.

What do you think (cover wise) would really make it more intersting to a buyer?[/quote']
How to improve upon packaging?
Hmm that's a tough one really apart from having screen shots on the back cover' date=' and then how many, obviously more = smaller or maybe a bigger box!, I for one like DVD style cases, and to be honest the packaging hadn't crossed my mind as I ordered mail order after reading a review somewhere (not sure where)

I can see it as an important issue to attract the "I get bored with games very quickly type" who has a wad burning a hole in his pocket and something on the shelf has to appeal or stand out from the massed ranks of war games, mind you there aint much in the way of Naval games out there really.

I suppose it would be to expensive to put a flick book animation in a hologram?

How about employing those annoying xmas cards style of chips with maybe some samples from the game or maybe a bit of morse code emitted when you pick up the box?

It's a tough call really, maybe a rolling demo of the game or movie of the game to be shown over the game store monitors, tho' how you go about influencing the store managers to take your product for display over another I should imagine is down to a bit of luck or maybe bribery!

Along less wacky themes I suppose for some people nice big easy to understand words on the box telling them what they have picked up would do the trick.[/quote']
