The Price Of Adimiralty

I have the SNATF web page updated already for June 3. Briefing and downloads are done. The mission will be made availible in a day or so. I will be posting this on the various forums tonight. Gosling, w ere you succesful in posting on those other squad forums?

Next weekend coming we begin something new. Campaigns. The outcome of June 3 determines in part the begining of the following session. Sides will be semi permanent. All of this will be in the forums postings. I believe this will help in the participation levels for two reasons. Formeost is something to fight for. With consequences to victory or defeat participants will enjoy and seek out SNATF more. Second is the opportunity for fuller squad participation. Unit cohesion is somthing we have neglected and keeping the blue and reds consistent will help that. It will add some rivalry.

I anticipate your comments.

This might be an excellent idea .. and something that might have an affect on Stats .. or visa versa..

Should we starts stats over each week? In the case of a 'campaign .. so we let the stats run so we have data for a 'sides' win?

When you do a campaign .. do the side change at the half? or do the stay the same?

This looks on the surface like a good idea. I like it because it gives me a base for something to track and report on .. how the RED team is doing .. how the Blue Team is doing.

This also leads into a virtual land map type of war possibility I've been trying to put together for years .. more on that when I know more of what Bolter had in mind here :)

My plan is to fight each battle as part of a campaign for dominance in the Pacific. Following a roughly historical pattern and basing these missions on loosely interpreted historical events, each week's victor would be determined by the winner of two rounds. In the case of a draw the next mission would be set with the sides more or less equal as we have done previously. However, when one side is a clear victor, then the other side will face a distinct disadvantage next week.

As the campaign develops the side who claims the most victories will begin to have to make descicions which will affect the campaign. Strategic planning if you will. Of course the other side may also plan and the disposition of forces will change with the campaign's progress. Input as to force structure and location will be sought from the sides before mission writing to allow for the greatest possible command and control.

Eventually both sides will have to plan not only entire battles but the campaign's strategy so as to assure their victory. ALL while playing both sides each week.

I think this will begin to spread and hopefully we can increase participation. Of course stats will be an important part of planning for the participants. But in no way should this be a part of the desired outcome. We should always be an objective based simulation.

Gents,

Please don't push into unknown territory until we have appropriate staff for this venture. I for one don't have time for SNATF any longer .. I can only maintain those web-master functions I'm fulfilling now for SNATF. I see that the commitment has already been made and announced. I feel it is probably a great venture, I like it, however I would have liked advance warning so appropriate planning (and support issues) could be discussed and prepared for.... especially 'testing'. It would be nice to have all that we have now working 100% before moving into something new.

I feel that if we don't test these various thoughts and ideas .. that we can actually 'hurt ourselves" thru embarrassments when things go astray.. Testing would help eliminate such ??

Bolter - The time we have been spending on SNATF .. we have been neglecting other areas of Tides which are needing attention to continue sponsoring SNATF as well as other features of Tides of War. Love the project .. will continue to support as much as possible .. but you simply must find staff that WE can all train up to take some of this weight off of Gosling and I. I leave that to your judgment, etc, but I simply cannot spend any further time with SNATF ...... Gosling can speak for himself as he knows his own workload better than I, but I just can't continue at the same pace..

Current capacity is set at 32. Bolter has suggested that 15v15 is about right for XXI. I think it prudent to increase the server to 48 and keep EZ and LW offline to compensate during the match. We may need to check TS channel capacities as well.

Tbar is right, we all have a heavy worklaod.

I think the stats will support the game rule changes and allow post mission effects to be resiolved.

I will look at the XXI missions for coding issues etc.
