The video driver, go ahead and update just be sure to remove the old drivers first. I posted a how to in the same post as you read about the problem in.

The driver from nvidia is the same as those from hercules, only nvidia perhaps have the newest driver before hercules

the soundcard (i didnt mean the package box) I meant you pc case (cabinet) you need to eject the SBLIve card to find the CT-#####, and yeah its stupid byt Creative has done this for years.

I usually tells people to get rid of any and all Norton products as I have soo much bad expeience with Symantec's products screws more up than they are good for :)

and finally as Bux said, both should be at 768 to prevent windows from starting to resize it, which it likes to do constantly.

Ok, thanks again Jesper. I updated to the newest video drivers for Win98, which is the 45.23 drivers. Will try game again tonight and see if it was the video drivers that was causing drops.

Is there no other way to find out exactly what model Sound Board Live 5.1 card i have than opening case and ejecting it? I had someone build the comp for me, and would not feel comfortable doing that, as ive never done that before.

Can't tell you how much i appreciate all the assistance im getting. You guys rock! :D

nopes there is no other way to identify it :(

and its unfortunally not enough just to open the box cause you wont be able to see the CT-#####.

But I feel confident that all SBLive cards uses the same driver (it would simply be too lame if they have 6-7 drivers for the same card type).

did you find the swapfile settings ?

Talked to my computer guy here at work and i feel a bit more confident in ejecting my sound card to look at it(without also destroying my comp!). Will do that tonight to get the number.

Yes, Jesper, you were correct in your directions to find the swap file or virtual memory settings. Set min and max to 768.

Bux, rock, roll, whatever, Im just glad you guys are here!! :)

PS- even if i cant fix these crashes, ERT gets an A+ for customer service and tech support!

Well, I've tried everything. Game still crashes. Tried setting sound settings to BASIC, and NONE........didnt help. Turned off Antialising and Anisotropic filtering on video card. Tried running game in 800 x 600. Installed all the latest drivers for video and sound cards. Did all Directx tests, and everything was fine. Set virtual memory settings to 768, as i have 512 mg's RAM. I'm sure I've tried other stuff that just isn't coming to mind right now.

Anyways, thanks for the assistance along the way Jesper and Bux. :)

Enigma is an excellent game, it's just a damm shame that it crashes on me. It is too frustrating to keep playing a mission over and over again in the hopes you'll beat the board before the game drops you. I'll look for any future patches that may help, but until then, I'll be playing something else. crybaby:

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes Jesper, i meant .net and not .com. I have an AMD 1.4 Gig Processor, 512mg RAM, Hercules 3D Prophet 3 GForce3 video card........
Weren't the GeForce3 cards just as bad as the GeForce2 cards? I had a GF2 and it always crashed in Enigma not to mention some other games. Recently bought a ATI Radeon 9800se which I'm happy with :-)

Ask Santa for cheap ATI Radeon 9000 which will probably be better than your current graphics card :)

My GForce 3 card has been supurb over the last year and a half or so of heavy gaming. I have generally had no probs with it, and always am able to run games at their highest level of detail. Online games like BF1942 and such I turn down the settings so I can react quicker.

I was thinking of getting an ATI All in Wonder 9800 Pro, as I know this is an outstanding card. But around 2 yrs ago, I tried some type of Radeon card that just did not get along with my comp and i returned it. So I think I'm more a fan of Nvidia's cards to tell you the truth. I am in the process of having my IT guy at work build me a new top of the line comp to replace this one. I think I'll go with Nvidia's 5950 Ultra FX card over ATI's 9800 Pro.

I'll also be going with an Intel Pentium 4 3+ Gig processor, and an Creative labs Audigy 2 sound card. Thought about one of the new AMD 64 processor's , but i think there will be issues with game support this early on, so ill go with the intel pentium 4.
