Hi all. Following my paddy the other day, and before my last character disappears from the guild I would like to ask the same question that resulted in the aforementioned paddy. This being, "What are the benefits of being in a guild with lower level characters?".

Secondly, would there be any worth in having training sessions for the less experienced players, this way the guild can cultivate the players to act and play in a style in keeping with guild values and ethics?

I myself can only play for limited amounts of time, am not particularly computer literate and as such have still to master a lot of the advanced aspects of the game, probably some of the basic ones too, and so would benefit from this training.

Please accept my apologies if I annoyed anyone the other day, and thanks to the people who have provided help/gear in the past.

Hi dude

The benefits of being in a guild with lower characters are:

1People with a similar skill and knowledge level as yourself, meaning your speed of progression is limited to your guild, if this is what you seek, some (minority) of people do

2You have friends closer to you to help you do instances and BG, you can repeat these instances over and over. If your guild has a sizeable number of similar level characters this is very benefical

This is all i can think of at the moment, anyone please add more if you can

To answer your second question yes there is alot of value in this. Firstly I do this when it is needed. I take a warrior and I show him what I know about tanking because its what I do. I tell him the basics 1 2 of keeping aggro and neat tricks to build up and keep aggro and reduce the amount of damage recieved and reccomended talents. I have all ready talked about elitism with some tanks. The fact is tanks can get as far up their own ass as priests because a good one is always in demand therefore elitism prevails. I try and constrict this cultivation. When i run a lower level instance I also tell people how they should conduct themselves in a group. If they heed my advice or not is their choice. But if it is heeded your going to avail more benefits from this guild because it is how everyone conducts themselves; selflessly.

Unfortunatly I do not know of anyone else who holds class advice sessions. I can always do group advice sessions of how to play in an instance no problem. If you need help on a certain class ASK! You might not get an answer the first time, especially if me and 4 other guildies are up to our necks in blackrock orcs or have had an unexpected add spawn in. Higher level instances require quicker reflexs more suitable play styles and constant awarness hence if im in them i rarely look at guild chat, some guildies even disable it. We are not elite people full of themseleves. This guild was built on foundations of helping others and being nice and we will always do that, or I'll leave to join another as this is what appeals to me in this guild.

You gimp yourself joining a guild with a lower level without knowing what you get yourself into. People have less or non advanced trade professions, no access to higher level mats or high level guild help with elite quests and instances. There are epics circulating in death angels however they are only given to people considered "keepers" people who we know will stay so that benefit them and everyone else. This isn't being selfish because we dont have to give items to anyone, everyone needs gold. We do it because we want to.

Death angels was originally a low level guild. Our highest lvl was one 60 alt (which helped everyone out immensly with questing thanks ugg) and the second highest level was the guild master. Most of the 60's you see in the guild have been brought up by the guild and brought up with guild values. Some have left suchs as deathawaits and serga for whatever reason they thought was better than leaving a guild that gives everything and asks for absolutly nothing in return except that you follow our most important rule...

...Have fun

Hi Thanatar,

I think most high level players in our guild will help you if you have a question about something. Although Turth has a point in the fact that you can't expect it immidiately. People might be busy doing other things and might not have time to answer your questions, or even notice you asked one.

Also lately with the server queue's just to get in, it might be that a player is cooking dinner etc. while still remaining logged on (i know i have done that several times lately)

My suggestion would be to look where people are (by pressing the o-key you get a window with a guild tab at the bottom. This shows all guildies online and where they are) If they are in an instance don't expect an answer then. Also it might be wise to wait till a player says something him/her self before asking your question(s) because then you know they are not away from keyboard at that time.

As for helping you master the game mechanics i would suggest you group with alts from higher level players. I can run you through an instance with my 60 main, but that doesn't help you in mastering game mechanics. You just run behind me and pick up all the loot :) I do have a priest alt which is lvl 35 at the moment. So grouping with him if you are around that level and preferably with some other guildies will make a much better learning environment, because you then have to develop and use your own skills to master the instance. I can then give you (and others) advise about how to do stuff. Remember though that i do not know everything there is to know about every class, so if you have a different class i can't tell about every nifty detail. But there most surely will be other high-levels that have the have the same class as you and that can log to an alt and give you some tips along the way.

One thing that is becoming abit of a problem lately though is that our high level players are becoming more and more involved in raiding instances with bigger groups. Like you i don't have all the time of the world, i have a fulltime job so my playtime is limited too. And there are so many things i still want/need to do. And that things are becoming more and more available to me lately. And doing the higher level instances takes up all evening (3-4 hours) Next to that i want to level my priest alt too, because our guild, like many others, is a bit short on healers. I have to grind for gold sometimes because i need stuff for my professions which are quite expensive at higher skill levels. On top of that i want to grind for reputation with Cenarion Circle because that will give nice rewards at the end. So you can see that helping lower levels through an instance becomes more and more a problem for me. Especially since our guild is getting bigger and bigger, so there are more request.

Personally i never liked higher levels to help me (and still don't). For me it has never been a race to get to 60. I enjoyed the road as well as the goal. I found it much more fun to level with a few people within guild that were around my level. We would help eachother out alot and do instances together for as much as possible. That way you create a sort of friendship with those people that lasts.

My 2 cents worth:

Benefits:

You get to build your gold up quicker within this guild than without, as on a regular basis, higher level players often provide gear free of charge. This means that you can get your mount at level 40.

You get the ability to get higher spec'ed gear than you would normally (& in this guild, unlike many others, it's free)

There is normally someone in the guild who has done it before you & so can offer advice on approach & tactics, or who as a last resort, can group with you & walk you through something.

Comments:

Personally I don't mind helping, but if I think that someone is taking the mick (######) & just wants a 'tame' level 60 to help out, because it's 'too difficult' then I don't offer.

(Remember many high levels went through levelling to 60 on their own & without high level assistance. They know what can be done solo & what requires a group).

A few times I've assisted with a mid-level 30 alt & been asked where my level 60 was - didn't help those individuals much after that.

BTW if I'm in an instance (very common), I ignore guild chat. I feel I owe my full attention to the group /raid I am in.

Further we all pay our fees & we assist because it pleases us to do so. No one has the right to expect & demand assistance. It is freely given with the hope that one day lower levels will join in raids etc. & we will benefit in turn It is an investment in time & energy, and also a diverting break from UBRS etc.

As I've said before imo, the game begins at level 60. Until then you are serving your apprenticeship & paying your dues. That said, I have a great deal of fun playing & levelling prior to 60.

Learning:

My best experience was with a consistent group (within the same guild) with 4 others from levels 20 to 55, when I was levelling a mage on this server. By the time we made lvl 50, we were able to farm all the pre-BRD instances (normally without a wipe), because we knew how each other played & we worked as a team.

Btw the group was a warrior, 2 mages, druid & a priest

Training sessions:

Still learning myself - often from 'lower level' characters.

Happy to help, comment & advise for what it's worth, but I'm not cut out /interested in being a teacher.

Most of my fun is in learning how to beat an instance without wipes, so always happy to guide people through those that I know.

I mainly play rogue & mage & don't rate my performance on either having seen some others play.

Thanks for the responses, rattle now well and truly back into the pram. There were a couple of points well made there that I wouldn't have thought about, hence my acceptance of the term "newbie".

I have also realised that I havent actually done much for the guild in return at this point, so if Im on and anyone wants me just ask. Oh and btw does anyone know whereabouts I can buy the pet level 60 described by Zerk and are they expensive, I suppose you'd have to feed them as well =) ?

Than
