You do know that I'm for the inclusion of pilotable aircraft in Enigma, don't you? wink.gif
Actually... no. Oops. 😳

To East:

I have been pondering the use of planes more, specifically the placement of torps, bombs, and ammo onto a target. Obviously smacking a ship with a torp in the propeller is a critical hit and should severly distrupt the ships ability to move. Likewise, a bomb down the smoke stack would cripple the boilers... What I am eventually getting as is the damage model being redone for Chapter 2 to take into account these types of hits? This is would apply to all sources of damage from air and sea.

This also would make the game different as aiming for specific points on vessels would gain importance instead of just hitting them enough.

It would be nice, whether with planes or not, to be able to destroy specific parts of a target. Attempting to destroy the bridge of a ship, taking out AA turrets, or torpedoing its screws would be rather useful in an attempt to capture or comandeer.

Can't give you a peek at what's made the cut yet, we are still in re-factoring and asset creation mode.

Yes, the damage model will be all the way to equipment/area specific (communications, helm, rudder, etc.). We always intended for Enigma to be realistic in every possible way except for the gameplay. We wanted to let you get to battle quickly, balance the ranges and reload times to keep it intense and interesting. From Chapter 2 onward, even the reload times will be able to be historical (yawn).

Don't expect to see time compression - at least not silent hunter style.

Time Compression! Bah! Time compression is for people who aren't dedicated enough! Time compression is for people that pause the game to go to the bathroom, or answer the phone, or... eat.

I recall with great fondness the days of the Iron Wolves wars when we would spend close to an hour just sailing into position for the big battles.

I fully support not having time compression. Its a great way to emphasize distance and size in a video game. Plus it gives you a chance to hide and to sneak up on players that are oblvious. Its really hard to sneak up on people when whenever they get close to people, their time compression turns off. If that always happened, you could never suprise them. If time compression suddenly turned off then they automatically know there is trouble around.

Giving people large distances to travel will give them time to relax and get careless. Plus it will make them appreciate having to sail from point A to point B.

I had nother quick question about land (in Chapter 2?) but I wonder if this type of thing should be in another thread and if East really has anything he can tell us yet...

Thank you SO MUCH!! :) I hate time compression in naval games!! If you have compression, then you can bassically skip to the exciting part of a mission and finish it in half the time it would take normally. If you can skip the waiting, etc. then the mission will be over in no time and you'll eventually get bored of breezing through the campaign so fast:Good Things Come To Those Who Wait.

--On a different note, pausing might be a good feature. "When nature calls...."

Sometimes it messes up your voice command, though. Every now and then, after I have paused, the game will no longer respond to voice commands. It has always been this way, no matter what hardware I have used, or what drivers I have used. It is intermittent though, just every so often.
