East, are you thinking of what Im thinking?

1. attack or evade decision check:

a. check torp ammo-

torp ammo = 0, evade routine

torp ammo = 1, attack routine

2. evade routine:

a. check fuel

fuel = 0, request supply, stand down and wait.

fuel = 1, check enemy status

3. Enemy status:

a. enemy engines on -> command -> change course, keep distance.

b. enemy engines off-> command -> shut down engines, save fuel.

4. Loop back to line 1.

Of course if you give the enemy the ability to think about saving fuel, it might simply drive some customers insane.

5. Now here is the trick. Head to the PT operating area using the red rings and watch the rings dance around you - they're out there playing with you. Time to go to bed. Set engine to stop and come back in 8 hrs (your call on how long, I just did it once). Good morning, (or home from work) Engines to flank and head for the rings. The PTs are out of gas and sitting ducks. A most satisfying turkey shoot.
Nope. Left this running for the past half a day. They're still running rings around me. I'll let it sit another 12 hours.

just look at the mission timestamps! 😳
IGN Surface Mission 4
(T-443)  American torpedo boats are operating along your planned course.  You are authorized to defend yourself as vigorously as conditions warrant.  If they come at you, sink them all.

07:33:58 - Mission started at 17.10.35N, 74.36.57W

07:38:38 - Destroyed PTG 21 with a 3in deck gun round NNE at 650 meters.

07:46:29 - Destroyed PTG 24 with a 3in deck gun round N at 2600 meters.

08:04:23 - Destroyed PTG 20 with a 4in deck gun round N at 2400 meters.

08:12:13 - Destroyed PTG 23 with a 3in deck gun round ESE at 1000 meters.

08:26:42 - Destroyed PTG 22 with a 4in deck gun round NE at 1900 meters.

10:10:51 - Destroyed PTG 26 with a 4in deck gun round SW at 2400 meters.

29:02:45 - Destroyed PTG 25 with a torpedo N at 2500 meters.

29:06:14 - Destroyed PTG 27 with a 4in deck gun round NNW at 1000 meters.

29:06:35 - Mission completed at 17.16.41N, 74.32.58W

Planes Destroyed: 0

Ships Sunk: 8

Total Tonnage Sunk: 616

Excellent work, T-443, well worth the temporary political inconvenience.  Not only do the Americans come off looking poorly, but we send a signal to Washington that the Empire is not susceptible to Yankee intimidation.
This mission needs fixing up, IMO. :!!:

A lot of things need to be fixed up... And this mission shows quite a few of the flaws E:RT Chapter 1 has. Just a short list:

1) MTBs can't operate in bad weather. Except in E:RT, where they even show an extraordinate hit rate with their small calibre guns even though they jump through the waves like kangaroos jump through Australia.

2) Speaking of small calibre guns: The calibre of these guns is too small to penetrate a warships armor that usually is designed to withstand Armor Piercing ammunition of much larger calibre.

3) And even if these AA guns may hit and penetrate the armor they wouldn't cause fires huge enough to produce smoke clouds that completely blind your sight (or the gunners' sights).

4) Speaking about your guns: IGN 3" guns seem to have been constructed in the 19th century (or earlier). They fire a round every 9 seconds - Even American civil war guns of the same calibre exceeded that firing speed. Even worse: Your 4" gun reloads and fires at least at the same speed, if not faster.

5) And even if you manage to survive the 24 (prepatch) or 32 (postpatch, thanks, how stupid can one be to increase difficulty of an already horribly difficult mission?) torps you'll have to follow those little boats. The aforementioned red indicator disappears once you are within 4 mile range - but you still won't see the MTBs (especially in bad weather). Thanks to the developer E:RT comes without a map or at least sort of a clipboard map where you can draw in your course so that you can see where you have been before. Or maybe where you could draw in contact reports from the red indicator to triangulate the enemy's position. Other naval simulation games did this years before E:RT was even announced.

Even worse: At this point of time your ship usually is damaged and can't run at maximum speed any more (even if you avoid all the torpedoes... the AA guns cause enough havoc).

Let's hope that we won't have to face such stupid missions in Chapter 2 again.

Hi all...

Just reinstalled Enigma, and patched to Gold... tried this mission unsuccessfully, so I took the advice here, and went other way from enemy, and used AA... and lucky me, both attempts the game crashed and exited to desktop... all I can say is BAH!

I love this game, but would like to see some improvements in the next chapter... most of all, multiplayer =)
