Small Questions From A New Player

Ahoy there!

I just installed the game. I've been playing the demo for the last week. Now I have some questions:

1. I've got the US version. I installed the patch mentioned on Dreamcatcher's FAQ, even though I wasn't experiencing any freezes. Is that OK?

2. I tried playing the first US patrol, where the corvette has to sink 2 drone targets. There's a sub there, too, I see. At some point the red marker is nowhere to be found on the HUD. Is the sub running so silent that nothing appears? More confusing is that even though there's no indicator where the sub's position is, I'm getting messages in green "SUB DETECTED TO THE......". Isn't this a bit conflicting. How is the sub detected if there's no indication on the HUD? I also saw no physical indication of the sub in the water when pressing F5 and scanning in the external view. I'm hesitant to move on until I clearly understand what's happening and this is just the first training mission! cry:

3. How can the in-game music be shut off without shutting off the music in menus and patrol description screens? I enjoy it while reading but not during a mission itself.

4. The game does not seem to allow for more than one player name on a single PC. That is, I would like someone else to be able to play the SP game on my PC but under his own name and not effecting my record. Is this possible? It should be!

The sooner you answer, that faster I'll get back to you with more questions. cheesburga:

Hey............ why's everybody running away? :(

enigma!:

Ooops........... another question:

5. I tried uploading a private avatar file but the load failed with a generic message saying the file type was not valid. I tried a JPG and a GIF version of the same avatar but neither would be accepted. The GIF is 11K, the JPG is 26K and both are 150x150 pixels.

Ahoy Old Yell..er,

The patch in the Dreamcatcher faq had to do with the encryption system, should cause you no problems.

The red bar and the crewman telling you sub detected is because it's beyond the display range of your tactical display. If it's in range, it will show up on your hud. If you are having trouble, try dropping to 1/3, more things that you didn't detect before should appear.

Sorry, currently music is on or off.

Any number of players can use a single machine, they just need to register their name in Preferences. One of the things we left out is a way to list the player names available on that machine, you just have to remember them. Type your playername back in and your record will show back up.

So, welcome aboard.

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear enough. I'm not referring to the red around the circumference of the HUD circle when an enemy ship is beyond range.

I'm referring to the ping blip of the sub. At first I see it, then I don't. OK, that can be explained by the speed of ships, the close range, the angle and the kind of detection auto-employed.

But once the blip disappears, how does the game issue green text messages "SUBMERGED SUB DETECTED TO THE..............."? Is that just an automatic hint or is there something that I should be able to see (vsual or on the HUD)?

Please consider improving this in the future. Thanks.

I've was assigned to shore duty for not taking out that sub in the first training mission. huh: But I stowed away in the campaign and LFN and RNE surface vessels in Singapore and Panama now fear my name! 😨
