For those who are about to open the wallet with the big bills

Toms has a cool article today "Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Vs. The Pentium D 840 EE"

The athlon wins on all the benchmarks cept divx

The intel chips costs ~$1000-1100

The amd is rumered to be around $1000 but i cant find anywhere to buy it yet

The interesting thing is the amd uses less than 1/2 the power of the intel so it runs alot cooler

Test Results Source its worth a read :) and always lookout for more cool articles on

Good afternoon,

I would like to purchase a meg of RAM but not sure what would be the best bet. I have a 3.7 GIG AOPEN motherboard with 1 GIG of 4200 RAM. When the action gets hot and heavy I notice that my graphics lag a bit. I have a VISIONTEC XTASY 9600 W/256 MEG.

Any and all suggestions recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

well you dont want 1meg of ram (thats only 1 megabyte) :P

Assuming that the "3.7 GIG" is your CPU speed??

IMO you allready have plenty ram in your system.

Your videocard, I guess is "powered" or "built" by ATi and is in the 9600 series, in anycase it has plenty of ram on that too and the ATI9600 series are very good cards.

What size(s) are your harddisk drive(s)?

And is there more disk accessing than usual while you have these "laggy moments"?

You probably should tweak Windows not to control your page file, but define the min|max size yourself.

You might also want to disable your Antivirus/Spyware Sweeper and other diskaccessing tasks you may have running in the backgroud while playing heavy resource eating games.

And finally try defrag your disk(s)

If you dont have a spyware too installed, you should get one as spyware easilly can drain your systems power.
