i was wondering with all the talk i see of making things more realistic on the ships whether an option to be lifebuoy sentry on the lfn ships could be programmed in?

also i thought that the option to smash sensitive equipment before abandoning ship would be a nice touch.

this was my duty on my first ship and i never got the chance to charge down to the ops room and take out my frustrations on the ops officer...erm...i mean..the equipment with a sledge hammer.

how about a virtual game of uckers?

also i think we should be able to polish the brass nameplates on the ships and clean heads.....endlessly....or how about a workup phase in the early stages of the game where the AI throws in a steering gear breakdown as you are about to log off followed by a man overboard exercise!!......ahh i can feel the salt spray on my face already :lol::lol:

I suppose some anger management types could always smash the sensitive equipment sitting right in front of them if they take things too seriously...(j/k)

Speaking of realism I would like to add that on American ships distances were not measured in meters but in feet/yards etc. This is one of the very first things I noticed when I first started playing ERT seems odd to have metric on ships and subs that didn't use that method of measurement.

Last week I watched the History Channel which featured Ships of WWII they even showed to only existing American Sub. TAC known in existance.

As a suggestion for any upcoming verisons of ERT perhaps in the preference section you could have a button to switch from meters to yards. Just my opinion.

What they should do is add an option in prefrences that lets you choose the unit of measure the game uses, so us Canadians don't get all confused at you crazy Yankee units. :D

By the way, and this is just a quick question regarding torpedos. Is it really realistic that they can go completely straight for so long? I'm no sailer, so I have no idea. I also remember hearing that for some torpedos (I think they were German ones, I can't recall), if they didn't hit something for a certain distance, a engineering flaw would cause them to circle round back to the sub that fired it. If this is true, would it be possible to incorperate this?

Sounds perfectly sensible to me to have the option of measurements.

One has to admit the game is lacking in this area.

I know a lot of consideration has been put into the game and I do enjoy playing.

As for torps boomeranging (coming back at you) in the movie Hunt for Red October that is exactly what happened with the 2nd Russian sub. It wouldn't surprise me if this was true.

:) just as a point of note for those of you that might be interested, the submarine in question being the typhoon class in the film is pretty common knowledge however what probably isnt common knowledge is that the pictures used in the briefing at the beginning of the film were those taken by helo from HMS Battleaxe of the sub making its first appearance to western navies during operation kerbstone which was a bit of a sneaky beaky in the early 80's

the helo nickname Asterix was away on a surface search during operation kerbstone which was undertaken by HMS Battleaxe to observe and film/record the operations of the soviet navy during their fleet exercises in the baltic sea

much intelligence was gained and though they did not make us very welcome (they laid smoke screens in an attempt to hide their operations) the use of tv and thermal imaging was highly effective in gaining much needed intelligence about the soviet equipment in use at sea during the 80's

the typhoon class submarine put up a mast and then began to surface. It isnt known whether they knew the helo was there or not (although they often "showed off" new designs in this manner) but the crew were surprised at what they saw and then gobsmacked at the size of the submarine which surfaced beneath them giving them ample opportunity to take some pics and rounding off a highly successful intelligence gathering operation for the royal navy 😨😨😨

Red October was a bad example..with somewhat guided torps that can track its own point of origin if the targeting procedure/solution is in error. these old duffs shoulnt have that problem....in the 50's 60's there was the "hot turn" problem...in which a torp would cook off and remain on board...the usual solution was to swing the boat around 180 degrees, ...more than likely what sunk the scorp.
