Provoking Enemy Friendly Fire

I got an unexpected result in in the training mission called Wet Feet.

I used the Lightning torpedo boat to sink the tanker. I noticed the frieghter wasn't shooting at me so i pulled along side for a close inspection in the F5 view (lots of nice detail BTW).

There was a torpedo warning so i pulled ahead 1/3 to get out of the way and noticed a sub on the surface in the distance. I charged the sub and it submerged. When I turned back towards the frieghter I'd been inspecting it was sinking. Apparently the AI was so eager to get me it shot it's own boat.

Has anyone seen this in other missions? May be if I'd pulled along side while the air attacks were in progress the AI planes might have hit the freighter.

In one of your other posts.. you used the phrase "aquadynamic for lack of a better word"..

I think the word I hear most commonly used for this topic is "hydrodynamic". I'm not sure if either word is more correct, but I have a feeling your word is more recently created.. ;)

As far as the ai shooting it's own boat.. there will be many accidents on the high seas during warfare.. however the phrase "it's own boat" wouldnt apply here because the mission introduction stated that your high command had these old hulks towed out for practice without mentioning that they were captured enemy ships or not. So more likely, they were just some older ships that belonged to your navy that were due for scuttling. I could be wrong since I didnt check the flags being flown on each one.. just going off common sense. In either case, if your high command had control over the ships to tow them anywhere, even if they are the enemy's 3D models.. they are no longer owned by the enemy..

If youve read this far, youre probably saying, is this really important? No.. just chattering away because both these items struck me as odd.

I think I invented the word auqadynamic many years ago because I didn't have a correct term. I'm sure you're right about hydrodynamic.

I told the story mostly because the outcome amused me but also because may be the AI overlooked something worth correcting for the future. The developers would know whether the AI acted correctly in that situation.

The Lightning plows the water like a trawler even though it has a hull that should rise at the bow as it speeds up. If the developers agree may be they could move the center of gravity of the boat a bit to the stern so it looks more like it's planing underway.

Thanks for the feedback
