Riding Splashes

Is this tactic applicable in the game? I've read a few naval books that has ship captains -- normally outgunned destroyer commanders -- steering their ships toward the splashes raised by enemy guns. The idea is that if the enemy undershot you, by steering as hard and fast as possible towards the splash, he might overshoot you the second time around.

But I'm no naval expert (and judging from the posts I've seen on this game I might be banging my head on the wall).

I thought maybe it did.

I just started playing the German surface campaign. And I know the first scenario is meant to be a cake walk. Two armed merchant ships against my lil' patrol boat. But I played it the second time as an experiment and I took decidely fewer hits while closing on the two vessels. Really, the second time around I think I took all of two shots to my hull. One for each target.

Not saying I'm anything at all. Just thought I saw a difference.
