It would have to be TAG controlled. Perhaps under license to places like TIDES. The biggest issue is containing the server technology. It cannot get into the public and licensing could allow that to happen.
Doesn't sound like it's going to interest many potential hosts.

Since this looks very finalized, pragmatically speaking, if a team/squad want to practice together privately, will this be possible at alll with the planned setup? I don't see how.

Actually yes, inside the regular multiplayer we are creating the ability to hold wargames. Your Squadron or Fleet just has to reserve a spot and it's no problem. You will even be able to select from (and possibly create) specific scenarios within your wargame area for your scheduled event.

Sounds like you have a sound idea there East. enigma!:

When I buy a game I only end up playing it for a few months anyway. So $40 for 4 months doesn't sound too bad. And I'm a student with little income. The thing about massive multiplayer in comparisson to normal arena MP is the continuous cycle. Games sold with a built in LAN/online multiplayer are cool but you fight one battle and then start again, there are no consequences, other than the victor going 'woohoo' Enigma will evolve and the actions of the players will determine the overall environment. Rather than just logging onto gamespy and finiding a single battle to fight you are logging into a dynamic, player controlled, environment. A mini world. This requires alot of time and effort for TAG to maintain as the whole thing has to be moderated and developed.

I played Sony's Planetside for a while and the sheer scale of that and the many hours of gaming I had made it worth the subscription. I am also a great fan of Operation Flashpoint and have spent many hours LAN gaming with my friends but when a battle is over its over. The computer gets turned off and the next day I could play the same battle again. This is fun but imagine operation flashpoint running 24 hours a day 7 days a week and the islands changing hands as players themsleves lead troops into battle, command the air, sea etc and players create there own chain of command as they grow in experience untill the war becomes an organised conflict into which you can jump at anytime. How awesome would that be!? TAG is offering that on the sea in 1937 for only a tenner every 30 days. I could handle that. And I could stop playing and paying when I liked. As TAG is a small dedicated company with minimum funds producing it's first title I think that they need to focus on making money (which they deserve) especially when they are offering such continued suppurt . Go for it and good luck. Image

Quick question though... How will I be able to pay? Because I've noticed most online games require a credit card and i only have a Switch debit card. Will it be possible for me to use that? I'm only 18 and I have no intention in getting a credit card anytime soon and it is a big hassle to ask my parents. Image

Thanks :D

This is not true of all MP games.

I remember back in my Delta Force 2 days a private server that ran a dyanimic MP campaign where the results of one session determined the next session to be played. I believe the server was called something like Tubbettiland or similar. Ring a bell, anyone?

So you could join in progress a battle campaign that had started hours or days ago.

It all depends on the MP abilities incorporated into the game by the developers.

The Tubettiland server was an anomaly and a great idea with pretty good execution.  I remember meeting up with Ocean on there...
Yes but MP software sofistication has advanced somewhat over the last 3 or so years so that the concept of dynamic ongoing game servers is no longer an anomaly.

My point simply is you can develop anything. The only thing that limits an MP game to short unassociated missions are the mission editors and the developers who designed a product's MP interface.

What moniker did you use on the Tubettiland server? Maybe I've killed you before? Image

I seem to remember mounting your corpse as WPA: EAST and Dirty Bill. Sniper with a blade. Saved the blade for those far off lurkers.

From a players side I understand your argument. I wish you had the experience to understand ours. We can't put it in if it doesn't make economic sense for us, and not having the capital available to be able to afford to put it in didn't leave a lot of options.

It seems to me that some are not drawing the distinction between Multiplayer and Massive Multiplayer.

Massive Multiplayer is a whole different animal than your simple Lan multiplayer. Massive Multiplayer means Running most everthing serverside, less chance of hacking, larger player community, A much larger game world, updates and addons without going out and buying another box. The most important fact is longevity, the game will be supported as long as the players support the game. Once a company has your money why would any resonable buisness person want to invest another dollar with zero return (It's just bad business) They are going to either shelve it or sell you another box.

I will be glad to pay $10 for all that goes with a massive multiplayer game and I'm betting that when everyone else gets a taste of it they will too but if you don't thats ok enjoy the great singleplayer game you purchased. Image
