Tides of War

I just thought I'd drop a quick note to say hi before letting loose with a barrage of tactics questions. I have been playing the demo for the last month and finally got a copy of the full game last week. My first impressions are a blend of fascination and frustration. Damn it is hard to kill a sub that doesn't want to die.
My main questions is regarding surface combat. Is there going to be significant surface combat? ATM it seems to be all variations on ASW. Do we get to duke it out with other vessels later in the game?

I'm in the US (no full game yet) but East says that later in the campaign, you fight with and against cruisers and larger ships. I know that in the Gigex version I have, I ended up in a big surface battle with a bunch of surface ships trying to kill the convoy I was protecting.
As far as getting a sub, it can be a Zen exercise sometimes (just like real life). When I am against an especially wily sub, I'll just make runs at him in an effort to wear down his batteries and let his air go bad so that he has to surface. Then I either ram or gun him to death. Just don't let him turn to bring those tubes to bear!

The corvette missions mainly deal with sinking subs, since that is what the ships are designed for. When you get up to the destroyer missions there is more fighting between ships on the surface.
As for the subs, patience is a virtue. If all else fails, they run out of air before you do.

Which fleet (USN, RNE, IFN) will the assassins be sailing with?

Still somewhat up in the air at this point, but it looks like we are leaning twords LFN at the moment. P-)
