Is surface mission 10a even beatable?
I've fought until it's only me, the Prince Edward, two of my side's subs, and a few aircraft left, yet no victory. This after the Hood picks off my surface ships one by one. Then it's only a matter of time before the Hood tears me open with her big guns (strange how she doesn't go for the PE).
Seems almost as if the two BB's are unsinkable. I can't even get close enough to fire a few torps before those 15's take care of me.

I take it you're talking about the KLM surface mission 10A.
The easy way to beat this is to run chicken.
If I'm not mistaken, the LFN's battlecruiser is always coming in from the west. Head east for zero action or SE for attempting a bit of action.
You know the Hood has you in her sites when you see either ships near you going down after 1 hit or big plumes of water rising neaby from the Hood's shells already targetting you.

At some point, the mission will complete, as long as you're still around. Enjoy the fireworks from a safe distance.

Yup. (I presumed since it was the IGN forum that "Surface mission 10a" was sufficient. sorry for any confusion.)
Turning tail and sailing east worked, I guess. Funny how to be victorious, you have to fail...

I stay nearthe Prince Edward , heading southwesterly,, zig zag.. trying to get near to The Hood. and the victory message always appears,.. A bit too soon and too easy .

When I played this one (just recently) I fought through until the Prince Edward sunk the Hood (yes sunk the Hood). The entire British fleet was gone, and a few of my fellow german boats (inculding the prince Edward) were still around, yet no victory. Wtf? I spent half an hour trying to sink the Prince Edward (having played through the other factions I know how that battle was suppoesed to end) yet after 1/2 hours and no results just rammed her, died and lost.
What the hell?

H.M.S. Hood has to sink S.M.S Prinz Edward for the mission to be considered complete.
