Just a thought on adding Signal Lights when transmitting messages from ship to ship.
say Multiplayer wise, If a message is broadcast it can be intercepted by anyone, where as if a group of ships within close proximity wish to do so they could signal each other with a message.
If you get my meanin crybaby:

Now thats a GREAT idea!! I like that.
But I should think a warning sound or light for Capts of all ships in that convoy etc and a reply button would be needed, just so we dont miss the message.
but in general I should think that would be a great addition

Great idea but what about those who don't know or don't remember morse code?

You would have to add a text to morse interface. You could type the message in and hit a broadcast button.

That would work.
But on second thought you could use some form of team-chat at the same time.

Not all gamers like to use voice communications. It adds to the network traffic overhead.
By providing an in-game text message system, you can also address players by their internal ID's, which don't always match up with their IDs in an external voice program.
For example, if you see a scope above the water and you want to warn a nearby ship, ingame you would click on the ship in the BTAC and bring up some sort of text typing window. You wouldn't have to figure out who's the captain and what's his external ID, ALT+TAB out of ERT (which doesn't work for me) and use the external program.
That's why so many games today still come with a text messaging system.

seeing the odd message flashed at you in morse (with textual translation) would put a smile on my face as i have yet to see it in a naval sim, I think an addition such as this would be a winner, and im sure you naval romantics will all agree.
and hopefully its implementation wouldn't be too difficult.... East?

A good variation on earlier suggestions. It could definitely be something for the future.
