Shame - great concept, looks nice but buggy as hell and way to hard even on easy, not a good combination in any game.

Keep with it, judging from some of the posts some peeps are havn difficulty completing some missions but stick with it and you will get it in the end
Enigma is not "buggy as hell". Enigma is actually very stable and we currently have only found 1 issue that a player is having that wasn't fixed by following the suggestions detailed in the Tech forum and our guys are putting together a similar machine in order to find out what is wrong.
And as for difficulty, yup, it's difficult if you don't try to think like a naval commander. John Keefer, managing editor for Gamespy has completed all of the submarine campaigns and is nearly complete with his second surface campaign. He's had the game for 2 weeks and plays in the evenings at home. I don't think that Enigma is too hard.
Shouldn't a game be challenging to learn and very satisfying to master? That sure as hell is how I felt the first time I really made a breakthrough in Chess. Too easy and you feel ripped off, too hard without a feeling of progress or possibility and you feel ripped off.
What problems specifically are you having and which missions are you having trouble with? We're happy to help.
Hi, perhaps I should of explained better in my original post, but I was getting extremely frustrated with the game at that point.
Mission 4 both surface and sub missions - most times I'm torpedoed very quickly (by the time i see em its too late and the evade command doesn't seem to work to well), and anytime I'm actually getting somewhere the game crashes back to desktop! I've probably tried the surface mission a couple of dozen times, it is very very frustrating.
On the difficulty thing, I agree, a game has to be challenging, but I've noticed little if any difference between the hard and easy settings. Right now I'm in the 'too hard without a feeling of progress and feel ripped off' category

512MB RAM
GF4 64MB gfx card
Hercules fortissimo 3 s/c
XP Pro
Running on 800x600 as per readme.txt, tried no sound acceleration etc to stop the crashing but to no avail.

It sounds like you have some compatibility issue.
Do you have the latest drivers for your hardware?
Did you read Here?
It can very well be some other software that you have installed that causes Enigma to exit to desktop.
As for the diffecult level, I had a hard time in the beginning aswell, but hours of play, made me "leet"that is IMHO what makes a game good, that you cant win it after 1 week of playing.
The difference between easy/hard, doesnt change your skill (or your crews skill) it changes some visibility rules, (posted by EAST in another forum).
When you hit a really hard mission... take a break from it. I cannot for the life of me sink the second sub in the American Surface Mission, so I went to Patrols and practiced on some easier training missions and then went and ran the German Surface Mission and got all the way to eight without too much trouble. I'm still having a hard time with American 4 so now I'm running Subs to figure them out more and I am doing better now. It's takes a little time and training and read the Tips from the pro's. Once you get past the learning curve you will be Glad it's not any easier and will be proud of the Skipper you have become and will kick major arse when multiplayer comes out.
