Yesterday's major naval battle off the coast of England saw the tragic sinking of the pride of the Empire, the battlecruiser Prince Edward.
The Prince Edward was sunk by its sister ship in the LFN, the HMS Hood, which was assumed to be in the Pacific at the time.
The Hood did not get away unscathed. It took several direct hits from German warships and aircraft. The Hood is reported to be fleeing back to the mid Atlantic at reduced speed and the German government has promised revenge.
Pictured below is a direct torpedo hit scored against the HMS Hood's aft section, as seen through the periscope of KLM U-Boat U-182, who fired the torpedo.
