Tides of War

Hi, I always copy my games cd for backup so I can have the original cd in case my backup copy got scratch or broken. I try this on E:RT but the game will not play unless the orginal cd in the cdrom drive. Legally, I should be able to do this right? for personal use. I would hate to go out and buy a new E:RT cd if something would happen to it. Thanks

From what you are saying, you'r trying to do a fonctionnal copy of enigma, right? Well if you have bought the game, well that's fine, like you said you can legally do it. But not everyone is like you, unfortunaly! sucks: So to prevent the game from being copied by hackers/pirates/thiefs, the game is not so easy to copy. Personnaly I use the original, and I don't bother to copy it. I've being using original since the first time I bought my first game, total annihilation, and if you'r careful the CD should be in good shape even 7-8 years later...

The good news is, should your CD become damaged most publishers - ours included - have a replacement policy. It's posted on their site.

I can see where jlh007's coming from if it's legally purchased. I know I have a little 10-month old that's going to be walking real soon, and she's already taken an interest in those colorful boxes housing daddy's games.

Though I have to say that I've used the original copies of all my games - even took them to LAN parties on the school network (college resources at it's finest ) and my CD's are still in perfect condition. If your's didn't come with a jewel case jlh007, (didn't some of the non-US copies come without a jewel case???) you might want to invest in one.

Thanks for the info wave: EAST, I really did not know about the replacement policy(should your CD become damaged most publishers - ours included - have a replacement policy). I guess you can learn and teach a old dog something new everyday. My wife and I home school, and you know how kids can be.

My wife and I homeschooled for 3 years before the wife began to melt down under the strain of a startup business and teaching 2 young boys. It's an awesome responsibility that pays off big. Kudos.

I hate CD Protections. They are completely useless IMHO. Answer to yourself: how many illegal copies are really made from original CDs? One in a thousand? Perhaps.

We all know that pirates use downloaded ISOs and they couldn't care less about protection technologies. I personally find it most frustrating when I can't make a legally allowed backup of my software.

I believe that CD Protections work mostly against legitimate users of original software. And I bet that they are not free, so games could be a bit cheaper without those useless protections...

I agree with this, and have been saying it for years, all you have to do is look at the Microsoft products (games at least), nothing on them at all.

I am sure they save themselves thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.

Copy protection is a waste of time, I have seen guys with games playing them 2 weeks before they were due to be released in Australia.

The best protection for Multiplay Games is the CD Key needed to register and money to be paid to play. Most will not pay and only play it for a few weeks before the next game is on their mind.

I have no probs with copy protection - I have my CD (got my copy of the game now) and why would it ever need to leave the CD drive?
