Tides of War

Gents,

I am the adjutant, for want of a better word, of a new Cliffs of Dover Squadron forming up to enter the fray when the Storm of War server comes back in a couple of weeks. We need an on-line home and after chatting with 616_Gosling, and looking at 616's page, Tides of War would seem to offer all that we need. Obviously we would be prepared to pay a reasonable amount each month for the privilege. However, and I might be having a senior moment, I can't find a link to give me a name to talk to in order to get things set up. Could someone, please, point me in the right direction or even contact me directly on ...address removed for personal security....

Welcome to Tides of War. We are very pleased you have found us. We are interested in helping what we call "Battle Groups" like your fledgling squadron.

Let's discuss the kind of support you are interested in and we can see what can be achieved.

Firstly, and most easily I can setup a Teamspeak channel for you within our main Teamspeak which is here:

Port: 9987

Password: Not required

Please scroll down and find the Air Department channels and the IL2:CloD set. We will create the channel in there for you. This will give you a place to operate for now.

To ensure no misunderstanding we are a "Not for Profit" organisation and so we do not "Charge for services". However we are not averse to DONATIONS as we do have to keep the "Lights on".

I would also add that donations are definately NOT expected although very much appreciated...

I fully understand that TidesOfWar is a non profit making organisation and that you don't expect donations, but a regular donation is what you will get if you can provide us with a home.  You will providing us with an essential service, why on earth shouldn't we be expected to pay for it.

 

Anyway, our needs are few.  We have Teamspeak sorted through StormofWar's own TS server.  What we need is a persistent and secure on line presence a forum for discussions, a message board for squadron announcements, a place to post training videos for all the members to view, but it does have to be password protected.  We cannot have the sneaky Hun players getting in and reading our squadron plans.

 

Is that something ToW can do for us?  If so how do we proceed?

TS3: I see you do not need a TS3 but we can provide a back up to SoW TS3 just incase, if that makes senseI

Forums: am very happy to set up forums for you as per 616Sqn. One is open and the other Passworded for operational security.

At the moment we are not hosting videos. This is an area we are looking into, together with an image gallery, as we are trying to assess the effect on our capacity and bandwidth. However, I believe YouTube videos can be restricted access and can easily be linked to forum posts. We can discuss this further later...

As to proceeding, everything around here is done by volunteers, so things are not instant. Having said that I will endeavour to get things up and running in the next few days. In the mean time may I suggest you encourage your members to register at tidesofwar.net.

There was a big problem with 'Tides' crashing and re-starting. Even though I was already a member, The site didn't recognise my user name and password so I had to register again..........plus ALL the info on our new Squadron (610) has vanished!!!

We're sorry, we had a hick'up, that caused us to revert a week old back up, we have been doing some major server re-vamping, and then our server admin (which is me) forgot to create a backup of the forums ... This will never happen again, I've been doing this for so many years that I should have known better that something would screw up ...

We are working hard to get everything back up and running for you and are almost there.

We will continue to build website content and develop the 610 Sqn identity in line with your wishes...
