Usn Surface Campaign Mission #7

This is a continuation of mission 6. You're still commanding the DE USS Carter Bull, escorting the Bolo convoy on its way past Greenland, towards Ireland. You've got one CV helping you out and you're up against 4 very agile RNE subs.
My bottom line was that no subs were sunk and the subs managed to sink 2 merchants and 2 oilers.
We must've held them off long enough because the mission ended in victory. Don't know why. Would've been more realistic if the subs had retreated after we would be joined by some more serious fighting boats but that doesn't happen.
All I did was go to flank at mission start, set all guns on the nearest sub in the TAC. They all start on surface. As one sub went to periscope depth, I clicked on the next sub still above and pressed the FIRE button.
I also signalled the CV under my command to attack one of the subs but sink it my CV did not!
I had a lot of fish sent my way but I was far enough away and to the side of the 4 sub's paths so that I could evade them and then swing back to begin dropping charges. If you run head on into the center of all 4 sub's path, you'll likely go down very fast, as 3 or all 4 subs will fan out their torps in a web you cannot evade.
The Carter Bull has a large turn radius and I find that it's not nimble enough to keep encircling your target sub and easily keep on pounding it over and over again. So I moved on to the next nearest sub.
Always keep track of where those subs are in the TAC so that you don't let them fire their torpedos right into you from short range.
I had one sub rush to the surface in front of me. Since I had DEFEND DECK GUNS on from the start of the mission, the sub took a shell from my main gun and quickly ran under the covers, without enough time to face me and fire her torps.
Not getting many medals in this campaign but I did get promoted to Lt. Commander of a DD. I feel lucky to be moving on in one piece.
