Hey, that looks really cool, if you don't mind me saying so.

You're playing at a much higher resolution than me (I'd guess 1920x1080, Full HD), which seems to make the colours more crisp when resizing the images.

Oh and I'm sorry for not being on lately... I've been very, very busy at home and used what little spare time I had to skin. I should be back in full force this weekend.

Salute!

I'm missing you too, friend. I'll be back soon!

And the screens still looks great at that resolution! I play at 1360x768 on a 32" HD Ready (720p) TV, which isn't ideal.

My wife just won't let me connect to the Full HD TV downstairs... yet. :P

Oh and I've seen this confusion before on the Rise of Flight forums, Full HD isn't the same as HDR.

Full HD stands for Full High Definition, also called 1080p, which is simply a resolution: 1920x1080 (or 1920x1200 in some cases), the standardised resolution for the best digital signal that can travel over HDMI cables at the moment.

Lower standards exist as well, such as HD Ready (720p) and Standard Definition (480p), as well as a few interlaced resolutions (1080i etc).

Now HDR is a completely different beast altogether.

This stands for High Dynamic Range. It's a pixel shader that strives to simulate the human eye's dynamic perception of colour and light. In plain terms: it's something your video card does with the image before sending it to your screen. Actually, it makes it look imperfect.

A standard image can't quite capture the full spectrum of colours that the human eye can perceive, especially the way we perceive bright blinding sunlight when coming out of a dark room, which can make white appear whiter than white. I hope I'm making sense here.

Now, a video card's representation of reality is perfect by definition, it doesn't need to get used to dynamic changes in environmental lighting and such. This is what HDR simulates.

Now, sadly, the effect is badly overused in Rise of Flight and not realistic at all. Proper use of HDR should always be very, very subtle. Too bad neoqb just wanted to hit us over the head with it as hard as it could to show off that its engine can handle HDR. Big deal.

To put things into perspective: 10 years ago we had the overused lens flare effect, 5 years ago the overused bloom effect and today we have HDR.

All I can say is: who knows what will happen in 5 years time?
