Hey Guy's
We tried a few different things last Sunday. all seemed to be pretty effective for the number of people we had show up.
We need to decide if we will use a frontal attack from the start or defensive climb away or a split between the two when we see what the other team is doing.
I reviewed some films film this morning from our first match with TKFM. They came at us from the start using a Hi/Lo formation and kept it together. All where in 109K4s. We stuck with the "climb and away" defense throughout the match except for the last few rounds where we took the fight to them but we where all low. We also had a couple of spitfire which did not help our cause any.
I haven't yet spoken with any of the BBC guys to see what they did against Rb. I will try to do it sometime today or tomorrow.
Let me know.

All 109's. Take off, gear up, flaps up, nose down .... speed up to end of runway .... clock the map.
IF
They are coming at us.
THEN
Go for them with split high / lo high pilots, two high ( three ) if we have 8 or more turn up.
ELSE
Climb as we know how to, loop on boundary, and climb on our way to them, all the time chanting too ourselves "Swoop N Boom" "Swoop N Boom" "Swoop N Boom".
A variation we could practice. Climb as we know how to, loop on boundary, and climb on our way to them. Two climb harder ( three ) if we have 8 or more turn up, main body engage at 10-12k feet, higher pilots will be at 12-14k and behind first wave.

I can't say this enough .. we have to READ the map to know what is going on.
So far.. we have only been playing a 'defensive/offensive" game. This is were we are not the immediate aggressors, but we take off for alt, watch the map.. then react to what they are doing. On the flip side is the "offenseive/aggressor" game. This is where we take off and plan on attacking right off.. go right for them.. chase them to the map limits etc. This "offensive/agressor" game is not one we have really practiced for but I don't see as a problem if we decided to do so. The game however that we are into practice with.. and have been using is "defensive/offensive".
Based on "defensive/offensive":
What we do.. all depends on what they are doing. It will take a good caller and map reader to "make the call". Once the call is made .. its of no use if every pilot does not "know" what to do and expect from that point on.
If .. they come right at us in mass .. its one thing.
If.. they send 'spoilers' or interceptors at us.. its another thing.
If .. they just seem to be going for ALT.. we probably stay on "plan" for a bit... watching.
If .. at some point they split their group .. we have to make a call at that time.
In my mind.. its all dynamic .. and that is where our weakness is. We have to be able to 'react' as a team as the battle field changes.
So far our plans are pretty much 'fixed'. The main core of pilots .. I think.. know when we call for a change of tactics what we are gong to do.. and they only need a 'little bit' of direction. Those pilots that don't fly with us as 'main core' are the ones that will get us in trouble fast.. they become confused and don't know what to do.
I don't have any arugment.. or not much.. with any plan you guys plan on using. Where I always have a problem is that our plan is 'stead fast' and most of our pilots don't know how to change off when the 'call is made' .. they try too hard to stay on plan.
This past Sunday we tried some nice things.. found out a little bit about LA7's nasty habits .. and we know more. We also decided to hook up Tbar, Burton and Zarn as the 'high wing'..
I'm not sure how you plan on doing all this in the game plan for this weekend.. I simply wanted to review and see if *I* am on the same page as you two are
Basciall.. *I* can go with any plan.. I just worry about the 'other pilots' and if they can go with us as well..

What you described at the end is the game plan Tbar.
You Burton and Zarn will be the high flight no matter what we do. I can keep the other guys down with me.
If the opposing team comes at we will engage low, expecting your wing to turn in and attack from above. If we go for alt, your wing will still go higher to try and get up above the opposing forces high planes. I expect my wing to come out between 15K to 18K. I hope your wing will make it up to 20K or better.
The thing taht is confusing is when you use the word "dynamically". This needs to be explained as you see it.
What ever the outcome we have to have the high flight close by and this is where I see we need work.
It needs to look like one tight group on the map to try and confuse the opposition.

To me, Dynamic in this context is the regular reviews of the map, checking what the enemy are doing and "dynamically" adjusting our plans to suit.
We could go through a number of plans before engaging.
We could go through a number of plans before engaging.
Exactly what Tbar said to me on TS.
Just remember this when it comes time to play against USHA. We have to key is on Slayer and Cross. We have to get these guys out of each round early.
Last night when I flew in the practice match with the USHA guys because none of our boys showed up. Taking Cross and Slayer out early was the key to us winning the 2 rounds that we did. Slayer will always try to go as high as possible. He was always higher than me when we engaged.
I can pretty much tell you now that our team speak work is nearly as good as theirs is. So we are on the right path. Our Hi Lo attack should work well.
One thing I learned is if they have some LA7's in the air they will stay low and will come up to attack. They will have LA's if they come right at us off the base. Their plan will be to have us go up after there K4's and they will do an "up and under" on us. So instead our low planes should cross towards each other and then go up on the turn. This is why I needed to have people show up for last Sundays practice to show you what we need to do.
Just about every time I crossed towards my wingman last night I got good hits on his target. If he would of turned toward me he would of got my target. I guess we can try and get it worked out before our match with Rb this Sunday.
Something else we might try to do is on our take off we go straight out towards the US base (or GB which ever it happens to be) and then we make a long slow sweeping turn towards the back corner of the opposing teams base. This may give us a little more room to work and cut down the other teams working area. That way if they do come at us we will be able to bring our guns to bear more quickly.
Anyway this is just a thought.

I read your report on USHA, precious info I would say >:-) CC taking out there top guns.
Pity only you showed up, strange really I would love to practice against such good pilots / squad.
As for the tactics you mentioned, we should deffo try them out Sunday.

Ya.. at practice first. As for the tactics you mentioned, we should deffo try them out Sunday.
I kinda p----- off again guys are not making practice. Joker knows I got so much to do I can't make them all.. but hell.. I make more than most .. so something need to get corrected. Hopefully.. its not a trend but an oddity.
/tbar
T, LOL .... can I call you T
I agree that a poor turn out is so dissapointing, and when NO ONE but Joker turns up .... well thats embarassing too.
I guess we need to keep one eye on the fact that this is a game, and "real world" gets in the way.
However, were doing well, and I think we are afforded another opportunity to shape this squad as we see fit.
I still believe, as we improve and develop we will get to "set our stall out" how we wish. So we can increasingly make attending practice a fundemental part of being in BSS. At the moment we may have too lead by example, for instance last week - every time Joker posts a training report mentioning that only T, J ( can I call you J ?), Z ( I've called him worse
) and B attended, the other pilots see we are putting time and effort into this - raising the bar. And the good pilots will want to be involved with these sessions - to know the plans we are practicing. Maybe one by one regular attandance will grow, but I think we are approching this the best way - leading by example.
Now, imagine if we establsih the Assasins, from day one, with this ethic .... as an entry criteria ... how quickly will they develop
and smoothly graduate into BSS

Patience chaps... its all moving in the right direction....
Could this be the best run squad in AA ?
