Forums .. terms.. misc

At Tides of War there is a different set of terms used for the various Forum Functions as follows

Forum Engineer - An expert front and back end and also administrates on the server side for all things forum related.

Forum Administrator - A Term not really used by ToW but everyplace else this position is akin to Forum Engineer or fits between Forum Engineer and Forum Manager.

Forum Manager - Manages the Forums on the Front Side. Sometimes has access to the ACP (Admin Control Panel)

Forum Global Moderators - These are normally more experienced personnel and normally on TowNet Staff. These people can moderate anywhere on the board (unless restricted to certain area's).

Forum Section Moderators - These people are very close to global moderators but only work ONE section of the board.. a major category. For example the ToW Air Marshal can moderate anywhere in the "by Air" section.

Forum Moderator - These are people with specific needs and specific areas. You see "Forum Lead by" on the forum face for these type of Moderators.

When the BoD elected a Forum Manager .. that person was authorized to appoint assistants. Assistants need to be 'confirmed' by the BoD after their initial 30 days on the job . These assistants are termed "moderators" at the USAAC. All "forums Lead by" type of indicators are "moderators". All work under the Forum Manager, who in turn works under the direction of the BoD.

=============

With the above said .. there are slight difference's in terms so you can understand that a 'moderator' is simply a term for anyone that moderates but it does NOT mean: Forum Manager.

There is ONE forum called "co/xo and staff board" that should NOT be moderated by anyone. This is the one area where members of the BoD can let it hang out and call it as they see fit. It would be a huge problem if BoD members posts were "moderated" for any reason. Historically ... this is the way it was set up.

At this time .. and as far as I know the Forum Manager has what he needs as directed by the BoD.

At this time .. and as far as I know, any FM appointed assistants have the necessary permissions to do as the BoD directed.

At this time .. and as far as I know, any USAAC Staff members indicated as "moderators" have what the necessary permission to moderate their own specialty section.

At this time .. there is a special forum set up for the FM and appointed Moderators. Anyone can access that forum .. IF.. you have the password. The pw will be PM'ed to Checkmate. According to history and original BoD directives .. it will be up to Checkmate who is given that pw. PW's should only be given out by the Manager in Charge of a given forum etc.

I will be available as well as TowNet Staff should additional help be needed. This area of USAAC has never been moderated by TowNet or TowNet Staff other than setting up forums, permissions etc via BoD Directive. The members here have self-policed their forums. USAAC has an FM now and that FM has access to all that he needs (albeit some training and explanation may be required).

Job done .. I think.
