Will flags be an option in Mp?
It would be nice to see those little colorful flags fluttering in the wind.
To see different signals go up would be a good way to communicate to friends and enemy alike. Your crew could simply spot the flags and say " trying to surrender, sir" or "Leading < sub / ship > signaling to Escort , sir". This maybe a nice little visual addition to the Tactical Display action. It?s nice to see your nations flag blowing around, signal flags would be a cherry on the Sunday.

Some of the ideas we have on the "future" implementation board include:
signal flags
real morse code tranlsations
semaphore and flasher systems
Morse will probably come first at fluttering flags are pretty expensive with our implementation.

Um, will there be translations to these, or will we have to work them out for ourselves?
My morse code beep beep beeps is rusty

Here are some thoughts:
1. Codes will, of course be entered by the sender. You might allow both a dot-dash entry system for hard core salts but also allow a keyboard character entry mode for us land lubbers.
2. Also include a morse code decipher so that receiving players can enter dots and dashes and have them translated for them to characters and numbers. enigma!:

I think the flags and morse code (flashing light on ship?) should just be eye candy. The game isn't a simulator, it's multiplayer game that has goodies to grab the attention of the serious and fun loving players a like. Trying to decipher flags or morse code signals is too much like hard work and will take the fun away, especially if you get sunk by a sub which you never noticed because you were too busy looking through a flag/code manual
Avon lady, are you the same Avon Lady who plays Delta Force and hangs out in the Delta Force usenet newsgroup?

Definitely nice to have and not critical but it's a great communications option for the era the game takes place in.

Yep but when was the last time you've seen me on the DF NG?
I've been addicted to OFP for the last 3 years.

Everyship / Faction will get an "Enigma" (thas a old code machine)
When you send codes only your teammates (same faction) can decipher it... UNLESS someone hijacked a ship of yours and stole the Enigma box, then they can listen in on it untill you changes the code format...
