Clash of Titans.
Summers are slow I've been told, and SNL may not take place as soon as we would like .. so I was thinking of something we might do over the mid summer that both independent as well as 'squads' could participate. This would involve all communities that wished to participate at a time good for all. Given there are a lot of vacations and other RL summer activities .. this event could field plenty of pilots and not be totally squad based or dependent.
The event would be a "Clash of Titans". UK, vrs, US, vrs GE pilots all at one time. (KAA if at all possible, but I'm not sure the time zone difference would work out). The environment would be an emulation of a small, baby Aircraft Carrier. Limited taxi, landing and take off space where traffic must be controlled for traffic taking off and traffic landing.
Read on and evaluate, don't get nit picky as we have a lot of brainpower and 'we' can work out the rules etc that will satisfy everyone in time.. concentrate on the concept in total for now .. please.
We shall see on this
Scoring: Total kills, best ratio (open input on this). Each weeks scores would be added to a grand total for each community. Winners at the end of the total event based on total scores, 1st , 2nd, and so forth. Graphic Trophy's, etc. Each community would have to display the trophy's
Basic rules would be developed for a fair camp rotation, and so forth. There would be a 1 square limit. No Alt limit. Possibly a larger inside arena may be used. Runwaying IS PERMITTED.
Rounds: Four Rounds .. each round 15 minutes. Mid or half time break of 10 minutes. Short round time impacts strategy and keeps the game moving on a fast pace where 'Alt" probably will not be a factor .. you can't get the kills running all day for alt
Physics:
Limited fuel, limited ammo. Landing to refuel and re-ammo permitted.. if you can
Landing / Take Offs / Deaths
You can only Take off in a clockwise direction ONLY. Pilots can land in any direction .. but can NOT take off counter clockwise. A landing pilot who is directed to take off again MUST taxi and turn in the correct take-off direction. Pilots shot down, or crash .. on take off .. or taxi .. or otherwise ..are DEAD. War .. is not fair. Following direction of the CO and paying attention to what you are doing is important. Remember .. everyone is a 'Titan", i.e. ACE pilot
Pilots *.
We use the number "X" in the paragraph below. The number will be determined by a formula based on the lowest number of pilots from any given community at the time of the event start, we will work on the 'formula' later. For now .. This means that if US has the least number of pilots at event start ... and that number is 7, then the number 7 will replace the number X. We don't want 15 pilots from each camp/community in the air at one time because it would be too hard to monitor .. so if US has the least number of pilots at 15, then the max number will be 10 pilots in the air from each camp at one time. The event would field only X*# of pilots in the air at one time. Upon Scramble order .. pilots should be pre-lined up on the runway prepared to take off.. only X number can take off. When a pilot is shot down .. another is ready on the runway and takes off immediately. This format allows any number of pilots to participate for each community, but only X pilots from any one community in the air at any one time. A damaged plane can land, and his comrade can take off as soon as the wounded birds wheels touch down. A community leader may order a non damaged plane to land to field a "better" pilot for the given community if needed .. but strictly .. only "X" pilots in the air at one time . Any one community could field substantially more pilots than another, but the "play field" would be even as only "X" in the air at one time per rules. It would be up to the camp or Community CO to decide which pilots would take off in what order, etc .. so strategy is also involved. the rules would not insist every pilot must fly .. that is up to the Community CO.
Exception and further clarification. This exception is NOT expected but if it should occur this is how we might handle it. Should a community only field 5 pilots for some odd reason, and the other camps have 10+, we would allow that short pilot camp to 'revive' a Dead Player .. ONCE. This will give that community a chance to compete, slim chance, but it is better than no chance. I really don't expect this 'exception' to play out.. each community has the numbers I feel.
Strategy and Communication
Strategy and communication within a given camp really plays a large role in this event. Titans vrs Titans should have no problem communicating .. right? lol.. Strategy can make or break a given round by a given community. Moving planes into take-off lanes require strategy, as well as skill.
Community CO?
This is simply the communities leaders elected or appointed by that community to leads its comrads into battle. Each community would control that aspect in whatever method they deem.
Officials / Refs
Refs would be assigned to help "monitor" compliance of the rules. Points would be deducted from a communities score based on the severity of the infraction.. ie minor infractions recorded at 0 points, major infractions at -2 points, repeat of an infraction for a given date would then be -1 minor and -4 major. Major infraction would keep going up by -2 points. Example minor infraction: Pilot takes off before a pilot actually lands or is shot down .. jumping the gun would be a minor infraction -0 points .. the first time, second time for that team .. -1, third time .. -2. and so forth. Major infraction: flying past a boundary grid -2 first offense, -4 second, -6 third and so forth. Don't linger on this idea of point deduction and what is and what is not an 'infraction' either minor or major .. we can work that out later . Concentrate on the total game concept.
Ref's will sit at the end of the take-off runway at each camp .. in an out of the way position. Each Community supplies one Ref who is assigned a camp at event time by the Event Manager. Ref's must use a REF tag. (Ref killing -2 on offending camp)
Officials can sit at any camp or best at an unused camp if possible.
