A Few Things To Improve The Game.

First of all, you really need to a way to be able to tell where torpedos are coming from. in real life if a lookout spoted a torpedo, he wouldnt just say "there is a torpdeo in the water" he would tell you where so you know where to turn to avoid it. i was thinking maybe having them show up on the tac display, in blue or another color that is not already used. this would be very helpful.
next, you should make the shell so they could pass underwater, but loss some of there veloicity bases on how far they travel underwater (thus they do less damage).
G'day, all!
This being my first one on this forum I'd like to say "HELLO" to everyone and the dev team members, or whatever way they are affiliated to the devs, who come here to read/write in this forum and thank them for their effort in creating such an awesome wwII marine warefare simulation.

This fella above, Scott, makes some good points. Replies?

regards,

J.C.
First, ahoy ya flotsam huggers, Scott  and J.C. You WILL humble the other
players eventually.....

1--Scott, if you want to see where a torp is coming from, which you mention,

is nice to know, just hit F5 or say "spectator", and you will see your sub

from a "third person"perspective, outside the sub, and see precisely, with

zooming in or zooming out(hit mouse left I recall), where the torp is coming

from. I find it easier to see by zooming out.  You can also distinctly hear

a torp when it comes in, so the visuals will be reinforced by the audios.

My advice in general on incoming torps is to know from the large tac

map approximately how close the firer may be, if very close, you have

just nuff time to crash dive to safe depth, watch it go over, and go back

to periscope or tac attack depth.  If further away, you have nuff time

based on distance to do some business and then dive.  In general,

dive if unsure and wait for them to pass.

It is a slightly unrealistic but neat thing you can do in this game, which I hope they retain, which is the F5 or third person view.

East, maybe you can let us know if they are retaining that feature in future patches??  I love the spectator feature, and it gives the game a visual

feature of audio information.

2---Shell, pass underwater, loss of velocity and less damage:  Torps can

go a long long way(somebody here will figure out the physics, think they did on one post, but even after that there is gameplay which may expand that) and somewhere along the way they lose speed but the TNT charge is the same, so the damage if it  hits will be the same.  The number of hits to sink various vessels depends  on hull and other stuff, so lets say 1 hit sub, 2 hits corvette, 3 hits DD,  15 hits or so BB, and maybe 990 hits on the Hood :P

Generally, you should fire the torps where outside range is not a factor,

and you are firing from relatively short range....

torps are valuble stuff and should be used sparingly.

Salute!
thanks for replying guys.
1. thanks, i will try the 3rd person veiw for torps, thanks.

2. when i say "shell" i mean like a shell from a deck gun or battleship gun. the reason i ask this is because i am tired of shooting at a traget just to have my shell hit the water 3 feet in front of the ship an do no damage, where as in real life the shell would smiply hit below the water line.
thats fine, but i like surface ships, and still think i would be a nice feature.
I agree...F5 is almost a cheat from what I have read about East talking...there needs to be a better way to see em coming....I personally like the f5 way and have it down pretty good...I really hope this way of seeing does NOT change because of the cool panaoramic view you get of the battle scene.
The only things I would really like to see changed are a possibility to find out how deep a sub is (for Depth Charge settings), and changing the tatctis (radar/ASDIC) display so that the display is centered on your own ship instead on North, like it is at the moment.
Scott,  those are good suggestions.  We are addressing the "incoming torpedo" issue.  The shell issue is a little different, but a good suggestion.
Welcome aboard.
It would be nice if the sonar operator reported the bearing of the inconing torpedo.
And by the way...

Why is there no fathometer?

This indicates that there is no shallow water?

It is common to park the sub at the bottom and listening, not in the Atlantic Sea of course.

But I still miss the fathometer, even if it would indicate infinite depth.
