Microphone Init Failed

Hey folks,

No matter what I try (listed below) I cannot get the Mic to recognize (installed the demo including enigmasapi) - always shows Microphone Init Failed. I do not have a speech applet inside my control panel.

Maybe it's just the NVidia onboard? What else am I missing? Otherwise sound works great for like Teamspeak, voice chats, etc.

All installs were done with Antivirus / anti-spyware turned off.

Thank you.

CPU Power: AMD 2800XP

RAM Amount: 512MB

VideoCard + Driver Version: ATI Radeon 9600 / 6.14.10.6458 6/10/2004

SoundCard + Driver Version: 6-Channel AC 97 CODEC on board (Nvidia) / 6.14.457.0 10/22/2004

Windows Version: XP Pro SP2

DirectX Version: 9.0c

Enigma Version + Patches: Offline demo 1.0.35

power management only set to turn monitor off after 20 min, all else set to never.

If I go into sound and audio devices everything is set to use the NVidia device as default.

sound card is on irq PCI 22 - is being shared with Standard OpenHCD USB host controller. Disabled the USB Host controller so the only one showing is the sound. No luck.

-set dxdiag sound to basic

-registry - removed all references to enigma or tesseraction prior to reinstalls.

-uninstalled, reinstalled the full demo, tried installing to different hard disk.

-tried uninstalling/reinstalling just the enigmasapi.

-tried to install the recruiting E demo with the enigmasapi

That is odd, does your mike work in the speech settings in Windows's control panel ?

Does the mike work in E:RT even it fails the init ?

Hey,

I do not have a speech applet at all in the control panel - I only see sound and audio Devices.

Running a hardware test there - including Microphone - all check out good. it also works good if I'm using sound recorder.

tried that twice tonight, once removing via add/remove programs - the other time removing by the install msi

no joy either time.

Although I'm wondering if it's installing correctly (my file date is 8/22/2002)

Once I chose to install to the default which was c:\program files\enigmasapi (if I recall correctly). The other time I tried to install into C:\Program Files\Tesseraction Games\Enigma Rising Tide\

directory - at anyrate, neither time did a speech applet show up (rebooted after each install) and each time the mic shows the same Microphone Init Failed.

To add to this, tried it a third time, uninstalled - then rebooted, then ran a registry cleaner - then rebooted, then installed enigmasapi, then rebooted. Still nothing. I had antivirus & spyware/adaware & firewall turned off during the install.

yeah xp pro sp2 - if your going to ask about registry protection? like this post

http://forum.tidesofwar.net/index.php?showtopic=1827

I'm about done with my MCSA and i've never heard of registry protection. If what you mean is effective permissions - I'm logged in as an Administrator with full control permissions onto the registry.

for further verification of that, I ran a registry modification testing program that was able to successfully modify the registry.

soon as my extra ram arrives I'll try to install the enigmasapi on another xp sp2 machine (virtual) see what happens.

You may not have heard of it, but it is a reality. You will need to check to see if registry protection is enabled.

Other than that, if you will email a DXDIag report to support@warfleet.net (be sure to run the tests first) we can take a look and give you some focused feedback.

Do you have any type of info on this registry protection? Theres nothing in google, tech peer forums, microsoft support or technet. And nothing on the help & support inside xp pro.

Checking my 70-270 MSPress book on it (the installing, configuring & Administrating XP Pro) has nothing.

Unless you mean windows file protection which is a group policy setting. That particular section of the policy setting doesn't apply to just the registry (and in anycase is set to the default of not configured).

Which isn't to say that one text book is the definative source (not to mention it isn't unheard of for Microsoft to hide something techs can use), that's plainly obvious, but I would expect to be able to find some info on it through one of the above sources.

Emailed the dxdiag, appreciate it if you can spot something.
