Depth Charges?

#1
I have really big problems sinking SUB's with my depth charges. I try to run over them and releasing depth charges. I have tried severla ways but no luck. Run over release at 20 feet, turned arround run over release 55 feet, turned arround run over 90 feet, turned arround run over release 150 feet but never sunk a demn SUB.
Can anyone help?

Hi there,

I just got this game and have fun playing it. It strikes a good balance between action and sim without getting lost in micro management.

However I'm still at a los when it comes to ASW in this game. I know I have to guess the depth of the sub but after several hours in the training scenario's I still have to get my first hit on a sub. Is there a basic technique to be learned.

Up to now I go to 1/3 power and wait for the sub to go slow or stop. I then drop the depthcharges on top of it (overlapping on the radar). I somethimes manage to drop at 2 depths (ie 200 and 150 when I think he's deep) but I always mis.

I hope to get better at this soon. Maybe some of the sub commanders here can help me out. You are going to need the not so glamourous ASW captains when we go multi player with this
Using the 1/3 approach coming in is just right. Don't wait for the sub to comply however, anticipate the turn. You can alternate between flank and 1/3 and keep a pretty good view of the enemy.
Dropping the charges involves 2 things: A proper depth spread and a proper lead. Be sure to drop in the subs path, not on her current location and drop a 50 then a 150 or something similar.

If you are playing the first Training ASW mission, watch which way the sub turns and drop in his path. The sub only has 1 torpedo so it will spend the rest of the time trying to hide or get away from you.

Because the sub's signature is masked for 15 seconds as soon as the depth charges go off, you can go to FLANK right before you begin your pattern to ensure you get enough lead on the sub with your second (deep) half.

Some of the old salts will be posting up walk throughs of their tactics soon, that should also help.
